~~~~~SPOILER~~~~~SPOILER~~~~~SPOILER~~~~~SPOILER~~~~~SPOILER~~~~~SPOILER~~~~~SPO ILER~~~~~SPOILER~~~~~SPOILER~~~~~SPOILER~~~~~SPOILER~~~~~SPOILER~~~~~~
Dumbledore was going to die anyway. He was the victim of one of Voldemort's protective curses that he put on one of his Horcruxes (objects you put part of your soul into so if you die you're still alive). Dumbledore decided that, since he was going to die, it would be best if Snape did it so Voldemort would trust him enough to make him Headmaster of Hogwarts, and Dumbledore made Snape swear that he would do it. In addition, Snape made an Unbreakable Vow with Draco Malfoy's mother that, since Voldemort ordered Malfoy to find a way to kill Dumbledore, he would take over Malfoy's mission if he failed, so he had to do it even if he didn't want to or he'd die himself.
SOME MORE SPOILERS/EXPLANATION
Dumbledore got the curse from the ring that was a Horcruxe. It was the ring with the Resurrection Stone and because Dumbledore wanted to see his family again, he put on the ring. This lead to the curse of his hand. Also the original plan was indeed for Snape to kill Dumbledore so that Dumbledore's wand the Elder Wand would be the property of Snape. He did kill him but what they didn't know is that Draco first disarmed Dumbledore making him the owner of the Elder Wand.
If you got some more questions i would be clad to answer them i just read the books again
Spoiler's can be hidden without it being super annoying.
Ok, I'm glad i didnt read it it sounds ******* stupid as hell. A sheohorned excuse to kill off the character because its actor passed away.
Books don't have actors, jackass.
But that's not what happened. The original actor was Richard Harris who only lived to act in the first two movies. The rest were played by Michael Gambon.
And that doesn't even make any sense in the first place. The movies are based off the books, why would the author kill off a character based on acting roles in the movies when the movies weren't even close to being made yet?
Dumbledore set off a trap and got a slow-acting curse put on him at the start of book 6, Snape did everything he could but Dumbledore wouldn't last forever. Voldemort doesn't know about the curse and is setting up a plot to assassinate Dumbledore, Snape finds out and Dumbledore tells him to take the lead on it so that Voldemort becomes even more convinced that Snape is loyal. In the end, Snape kills Dumbledore on Dumbledore's orders so that Voldemort would trust him without reservations, and in the end Snape is able to disrupt several plots, saving Harry's life numerous times, without detection.
