That picture makes me want to punch my moniter and the caption makes me want to punch her
Im from europe and havent followed this case about zimmerman, all i know is that people say it was some racist who shot a black guy for no reason?
Whats the real story ???like wtf happened.
It's like this - White kid dies. Murder. Black kid dies. Racial outcry. Seriously who ****** cares.
Backstory: George Zimmerman was a neighborhood watchman whose neighborhood had experienced some burglaries in the few weeks before the incident. Some young black males were seen hanging around the sites of the burglaries.
Later, Zimmerman was driving around at night and sees a young black male (Trayvon Martin) walking around, allegedly looking at houses. This evidently looks suspicious, so Zimmerman calls the police to report the activity. The police tells him to stay in his car and do nothing, but Zimmerman instead follows Trayvon and gets out to approach him. The confrontation results in violence, and ends with Trayvon getting shot in the chest. Zimmerman goes to the police to report the incident, and the police don't detain him because of Florida's Stand Your Ground law, which prevents you from being prosecuted for violence in self-defense.
So it got on the news that a white man (though Zimmerman has a Peruvian mother and identifies as Hispanic) shot and killed a black teenager, and the police let him walk free. So people assumed Zimmerman did it because he was racist, and the police likewise are prejudiced against black people. Eventually the public applied enough pressure to get Zimmerman charged with second-degree murder.
Now, according to Zimmerman's story, after he approached Trayvon, Trayvon said something like "you got a problem? ... Well, you do now" and punched him in the face. He knocked Zimmerman to the ground and bashed his head on the concrete, ignoring Zimmerman's cries for help and finally reaching for Zimmerman's holstered gun, saying "You gonna die tonight, ************". At this point Zimmerman drew the gun and shot Trayvon in self-defense.
This story is supported by the Zimmerman's bleeding head wounds which were photographed after the incident, and the grass stains on his shirt. Also some witnesses heard him calling for help and someone saw a black teenager beating up an older man on the ground. (con't).
Obviously Trayvon can't tell his own story because he's dead, but his supporters claimed it was Trayvon who was heard calling for help, and that Zimmerman attacked Trayvon. It's not definitively known who started the fight. However, evidence on that side seems rather tenuous, and is based on Zimmerman disobeying police orders when he confronted Trayvon (which is true, but doesn't indicate that he attacked Trayvon).
So the jury just acquitted Zimmerman based on reasonable doubt, which has caused ********** around the country, ranging from protests to violent riots with vandalism and stone-throwing.
It's a bit of a long story, but here goes. George Zimmerman was a half-Hispanic ("white") dude who was part of a neighborhood watch, a group of residents who are basically on the lookout for criminal activity in the neighborhood so they can warn police more effectively. There had been a series of robberies in the area, and Zimmerman happened to notice this black kid in a hoodie, Trayvon Martin, wandering through the neighborhood despite not living there. Zimmerman thought it was suspicious, started following him with his car while calling the police about it. He is carrying a handgun, which is legal in Florida with a permit, as long as it is concealed. He ends up getting out of the car to keep track of Martin, who doesn't like being followed and is on the phone with his girlfriend. A fight breaks out, it's up for debate who started it although the jury thought it was Martin, Zimmerman gets his head bashed on the pavement a few times and shoots Martin. The reason it made big news is that the police, who had warned Zimmerman not to start anything, let him go after a very brief investigation without charges. This, rightly, ticked a bunch of people off, and led to a bunch of debates about whether the gun laws were the problem, and whether the police/Zimmerman were being racist. Eventually, after the outcry, he does get charged and the jury finds him not guilty by reason of self-defense. The verdict is kind of controversial, because even if Martin did directly start the fight, Zimmerman created the situation by following him. It's an awful case regardless of which way you look at it.
Thanks for explaining btw.
Oh and 1 more thing.. how is the candybrand skittles connected to this all?
Tray-Tray had a bag of skittles and a can of Arizona watermelon (no, I'm not making it up) juice/tea with him. Both of which are used to make a drug called "purple drank" that the little black angel on earth used to use and might have sold.
The lesson is: don't bring skittles to a gunfight.
Man that sucks....
