He accepts them...then tortures them and jacks off for eternity.

That's what the Bible tells you though, the same book that tells you that the devil is evil. For all we know, if there is a hell, it's where all the cool people go and they're rewarded for being individuals.

I personally think that God wouldn't create such amazing people as Neil Degrasse Tyson, Winston Churchill and Stephen Hawking, Men who have done so much for Humanity and then tossing them aside like yesterdays breakfast. If God truely wanted us to blindly follow him he would have done something by now. The problem with manhy of my fellow Christians is that they believe God is a being with no personality, we weren't created in his image in the physical sense, but in the sense that we are all unique.

I love the idea of a benevolent, omnipresent God, and I kind of do wish there was one, that we would be rewarded for good deeds, but seeing some of the awful stuff in this world just convinces me that if there was a God, it isn't a benevolent being that controls everything, but rather an observer, like a kid watching some ants.

This sounds cynical but I think that a universe without strife and suffering would be bad. Without bad what is good. If everything was perfect then there would be no point in giving us life in the first place.

The only three things said in ultimate umbrella generality are this:

Separation from God

That is what we know of hell. Oh, and its got a lake of fire.
