technically, the Sun is not actually on fire, it is just a massive nuclear reaction that is generating tremendous energy and heat.

I believe that is what fire is.

It's combustion as well as nuclear fusion.

That's because it isn't the sun does both fusion and combustion.

I wouldn't call it combustion. As far as I know carbon is far more combustible than hydrogen and helium, which is what stars are made of. I'm fairly certain that stars give off light because they are at such high temperatures. Just about anything at say 5,700 K would glow. I'm sure that the nuclear fusion going on in the sun would add to it, but i would bet on the sun giving off light just because it's really ******* hot.

the sun doesn't combust, combustion is the chemical reaction that consumes and restructures the chemical makeup of objects, generally requiring fuel and an ignitable gas to burn. Stars, however, are enormous nuclear fusion reactors, and what they are doing is actually fusing atoms together and making new elements, Hydrogen to Helium, etc, etc, and since there is no oxidizing element in stars, they never actually "ignite" per se, instead they produce a tremendous amount of energy that pushes outward from their core at extreme heat, creating an outer coronal layer of plasma which looks a lot like fire but acts nothing like it.

true story, hence why the sun produces radiation

the only reason we arent dead or mutated is because of the ionosphere blocking most of the ionized radioactive particles, and the non-ionized radiation is pretty much just like microwave energy

Fox news viewers have also been shown to be less informed in comparison to the viewers of other news stations, and even people who don't watch the news. So that figure isn't very surprising.

That's cool. So let's say, for the purpose of our argument, that that man is correct about that 2010 study at the moment, because I don't feel like watching a 20 minute video right now. Although knowing Youtube he's probably not.

I gave those a read and i have a problem with them. It seems these studies focus only on 1 or 2 topics each and then look how many Fox viewers got that specific topic correct. The problem is that in the critigue i linked to the study said Fox viewers got something wrong, however after carefull research they actually got it right which could be the case with these studies as well. Moreover Fox provides conservative news so on political controversies they obviously have a bias, but all news outlets have a bias. If i watch MSNBC for example being a very left-wing news outlet they will also report with a bias and their viewers will then hear that biased news and will get stuff wrong that way.

So I decided to take a look at the sources in the video's description before actually viewing it, and I'm glad I did. At least half of them completely contradict the point of his video, and the only sources that actually seem like they would agree with him are sites that have "Combating Liberal Media Bias" in the headline. So you'll excuse me if I laugh them off as ridiculously biased and trust the conclusions of multiple independent studies over the opinions of people with a clear agenda who are still stuck in the "birther" phase.

So, as I said, I'm going to go ahead and say that Fox News viewers actually being right about the issues in those studies is ********, especially when multiple studies reach the same conclusion on multiple topics, such as whether Obama is actually American, and within multiple different time frames.

Finally, other news sites being biased is true, but doesn't stop the fact that everything points to Fox News Viewers as the most misinformed.

You have not adressed what i said at all. You merely whined about how the guy in the video is biased and that, because of that, you won't give him a chance to deliver a point of view that contradicts yours regardless whether what he says is correct or not.

Also the links he provides in his discription indeed aren't all sources that support him, they're just links to websites that cite the FoxNews-viewers-are-more-misinformed study which i can't believe you couldn't figure out on your own.

If his point of view is supported by nothing but biased information, then it is not worth listening to. And regardless of whether it is right or wrong? If I already know someone is wrong before they even open their mouth why the **** would you expect me to pay attention to what they are saying. Are you retarded?

In addition I addressed your point about other news sites and their bias so yes, I have addressed everything that you have said.

As for other the other sources not supporting them, I mentioned that because is entire video is in response to one study, done by a single university, and another done by the WPO, yet he cites several other studies beyond those that reach the same conclusion, which only serves to weaken his point. Many of those sources contain links to even more studies that argue against the youtuber's point. I figured you'd be smart enough to realize that without me having to point that out but obviously I was wrong.

I also like how you have no response to the obvious bias of pretty much every source that agrees with him.

so your answer is: he has a bias, so he is wrong.

I.e. when someone is biased he is always wrong. I'll just forgive you for saying that and i hope you will, after carefull thinking, also understand how idiotic that is. Now why don't you stop making excuses, watch that video and understand what my problem with your studies is?

"yet he cites several other studies beyond those that reach the same conclusion"

I'm sorry which studies? I seem to have missed them.

I never denied the sources that he used were biased, but as i already pointed out biased does not mean untrue or false.

A source with a biased agenda behind it is not a valid source because they inherently twist the truth and their results to fit the goal they set out to achieve. They are not looking to find the truth, they are looking to find their truth. Period.

You apparently can't find a single independent study backing your point, yet I can easily find multiple studies from different time frames that all reach the same conclusion. If you actually think a website that titles itself "Disproving liberal media bias" is a valid source then you're retarded. I might as well go find a website titled "All Fox Viewers Are Morons". I'm not going to waste my time watching a video that uses obviously slanted "evidence". Find me an independent study and I'll actually consider your point.

As for other studies cited the thinkprogress link alone contains links to several other studies that show a history of Fox's viewer's lack of knowledge.

Again you say that biased sources are always wrong because they "inherently twist the truth", first of all that's not how bias works. They do however attempt to, as you say, find their truth but they do this by exstensively reporting on stories or findings that would support their political views and elaving out the ones that don't.

Moreover that would mean that everything is false and wrong because every source and news outlet is biased to some degree which is kind of ridiculous. Like the Fairleigh university that did one of your studies is know to be a Left-wing university. That would mean your study is biased and therefor false, just because it's biased.

Your second link is NBC, which is also left-wing, biased: false.

The third one is by Ohia State univerisity which has left-wing studies and in addition to that their study only concluded that fox viewers are more inclined to believe false rumors and even explicitly say that this may not be at all because they watch fox news

The fourth is from The university of Maryland Whch is also left-wing and is the one being refuted in the video. But off course if you had actually watched the video you would've already known that.

I would also like to add that Lee Doren(the guy in the video) actually criticizes the study himself and the links in the discription are only websites that came up with a similair conclussion. He even uses findings by Left-wingers to disprove the study.

Off course if you had watched the video, you would've already known that...
User avatar #98 to #97 - jagenblitz

Leaving out findings that don't support their views is the definition of twisting the truth. Are you even reading what you type?

Secondly, there is a vast difference between a University or news site that is somewhat left-leaning and a website that freely admits their only goal is to expose liberal media bias. Furthermore, the studies I linked and the ones being "refuted" are polls, which are inherently neutral anyway. These studies are also critiqued by other universities, professors, etc. if these studies are wrong you'd think there would be accredited sources saying so.

Thirdly, no **** the guy in the video criticizes the study himself. That's what the entire video is about. What are you even talking about? And what do you mean the links in the description are the only sites that came to the same conclusion? At least one of the links I provided isn't on that list. And what "left-wing findings" does he use, exactly?

I'm not going to waste my time going over half-truths spouted by some guy who actually thinks those are valid sources anymore than I would listen to a hippie talk about gun control.
