I am speaking for the true musicians not faggots like Lil Wayne, French Montana etc. but people like Eminem, Kendrick Lamar and Nas (Sorry I only listen to rap, but this goes for all music genres) put their heart and soul into their music, and then it's not about the money, but what they had spent so long time perfecting just gets taken from them.
This is a quote from one of the songs on the Bad meets Evil CD:
"When my music ~you take so subtle just to give it away,
To people who don’t even appreciate flows, motherf-cker I’m livid today,
Cuz I break my back to give you my art you steal my thoughts it’s like drivin' a spike through my heart,
You might not think it's that big of a deal to steal from me but music is all I got,"

It doesn't necessarily extend to everyone. For example, Immortal Technique puts his heart and soul into his music, and hes an independent artist so he doesn't make nearly as much money as rappers that are attached to a big label. During a show he said, "I don't give a shit if you steal my music off the internet, steal it dammit, music should be free." Considering that he makes considerably less money from his music than other rappers, you shouldn't really feel all that bad if you can't afford their music and decide to pirate it instead.

I feel you man, raps gotta mean something to me. And the only people that really get it done are:
1. Kendrick Lamar
2. J. Cole
3. Nas
Literally the only people I listen to for rap, but goddamn they got the best in the business.

IMO Cole's over rated. Big K.R.I.T is better, Brother Ali is also amazing.

Yes Joe Cole. Great rapper.

Throwing my hat into the ring, I listen to little rap, but I will check those ones out. They seem promising. As for my suggestion, try Hopsin. He's a good rapper, ill mind 5 is really good because it's his opinion of the 'rap scene' and how poor it is, and overall he's got a good history, and is very talented.

Dave Grohl said it best.

I can't find the quote but it's really cool, especially coming from him.

Don't get me wrong though, I am all for piracy.

It's this one probably. But it all comes down to the artists. Eminem lives a sheltered life, he can't go anywhere as he is one of the most popular people on the entire planet, he spends 70% of his time at home, so he want true fans to get his music, people who are willing to buy it.

I am sure he is sincere but its kinda hard to believe what he's saying when he is one of those millionares. Its easy to be a musician with principles once you're fucking loaded. Just sayin.

Yeah, that's the one. I didn't know Eminem was against piracy, he's always stuck out as the big rapper that did it for himself, not the music.

He does it for himself, and that is why he do not want people to "steal" it

That sounds awfully bullshitty.

"I don't care about money, it's all about the music and the art. But people who can't afford to buy all the music they want and still want to listen to it can't because I want them to pay me for my music and art. But that doesn't mean I don't think it's all about the music and the art, though. Right? It's about getting the message out to everyone I can that pays for it" .
