i admit 2/3s is a bit much but its not the 4 inches in the picture its close two 1/3.
I based mine on a picture of a snake with its cloaca around half way up its body,

I think the size of a snails tail in proportion to the rest of it's body depends on the species of snake so that a reticulated python or anaconda has a smaller tail in relation to it's size and a common viper has a smaller tail but I'm not totally sure about that.
