I am kind of sick of people saying to eat less to lose weight. Eating less can slow your metabolism further and can cause more weight gain. The trick is to get a perfect balance in your diet which is not the easiest thing to do for some people. Then there are people that eating the right food can still make no difference. It's the same way that a skinny person may have a fast metabolism and cannot gain any weight even when eating a ton. It's not all about quantity it's about eating at the right times of the day and eating the right food.

It's pretty most all about calories (some guy lost weight by only eating at McDonald's and watching the calories intake)
Eating >500 calorien less than you need results in weight gains once you start eating normaly again (because of slowed metabolism).
But having a calories deficit of 200-500 calories over a long time helps losing weight and you don't have to fear a yo-yo effect

It's not really about calories, it's about how often you eat and what exactly you eat.
The best way to get rid of body fat is to eat 5-6 small meals a day. Each meal should consist of portions. 1 portion = the surface and the volume of your palm.
The 3 main meals should consist of 1 portion of carbs, 1 portion of greens (make it 2 for lunch) and (optional) 1 portion of proteins. The other 2 or 3 meals can be made with fruits, nuts and so on.
What to eat: whole grain for carbs, lots and lots of greens and fruits, plant proteins, some animal proteins, and small amounts of healthy fats (like olive oil).
What not to eat: anything with high fructose corn syrup, any kinds of sweets, junk food and in general anything that has lots of saturated fats.
I'd also recommend drinking lots of green tea and water of course
Exercising is a must, without it this won't be nearly as effective.
With such a diet and 3x a week exercising (at home) i managed to get from 83kg to 78 within less than 2 weeks, which is solid result.

A solid result but maybe even a bit much... 5kg should be lost over at least a month, 2 would be better (on the other side, when you begin losing weight it is mostly water and no fat)
From personal experience and what I've read so far (and that was quite a lot) it doesn't matter when or what you eat when you want to lose weight (living healthy is a completely different matter!), only calories count (but maybe that changed again, there are so many different studies that contradict each other...)
I lose weight easily when sparing carbs (eating 50-70g per day max.) and eating lots of fish, turkey, chicken, fruits, vegetables and nuts (you don't need to eat much to be full and it lasts a long time) and it made no difference whether I ate 2 or 6 times a day....

On the other side, everyone is different and a friend of mine had no luck losing weight with my method!
I guess everyone has to find his own way (I tried a lot and only low carb really worked, because I could hold a constant calories deficit of about 200-500 calories)

Indeed. What you eat is more important than not eating. My math teacher told me that his wife wanted to loose weight, and just ate a ******** of carrots together with her regular habit, and that did quite a bit. As long as you eat healthily, ones healthy body weight can be either quite chubby or really skinny
