I know i'll probably get red thumbs but still.
I used to listen to metal a lot and hang out with people who listened to metal. But everytime someone talked about a non-metal band everyone just said "If you don't listen to metal you don't listen to real music" and this pisses me off.
It's ok if you like metal but don't bash on other genres just because you don't like them.
Metal isn't the only genre in the world.
If you're not like this then I like you.

Yea I know this guy that does exactly that. Every type of music sucks except "Metal", if he hears something else than that he'll go like: "The **** is this **** ?"... Real annoying.

But this post wasn`t hating on other genres.

And honestly there are more people who hate on heavy metal then you would think.

The fun thing is, that a lot of big time metal bands and their members, including death metal bands such as Immolation, actually listen to other music. I know one of the members from Immolation loves Sade.

If I were to go back and show the kind of metal I'm into now, (Chelsea Grin [ **** Evolve], Upon A Burning Body, Visceral Disgorge) to an earlier me, I'd think I was retarded. There was a time when all I listened to was Green Day and Hendrix, but you gotta open yourself up to music and let yourself experience different things. Narrow-mindedness is despicable.

It depends on which grunge band you're talking about. Soundgarden and Alice in Chains have bordered pretty close to metal.

Yeah it kinda hacks me off when metalheads complain they get lots of hate then bitch about every genre excluding theirs. I love metal but I love to play Jazz on my guitar and I respect a lot of pop artists, you just gotta live with it

Agreed. This is why I stay away from the stereotypical Metal heads. The ones with denim jackets and the **** load of band patches. The one's who want to look "Metal" so people immediately know that they're into Metal. From my experience, those are the guys who are the most douchey. But obviously I'm generalizing, there are some cool guys. Out of most of my Friends, I'm the one who primary listens to Metal, such as Brutal Death Metal. Some listen to Metallica and Slayer, but they're not THAT into Metal. They're more into everything, as I am. But Metal being my primary genre. Those guys don't really hate on the music I listen to, and I don't hate on them. As a Musician listening and exploring other genres opens you to much more things. For instance, I'm in an Indie Rock band, and I don't particularly like Indie. But the music the other guys have made is great in my book, fresh and original for me. Plus it's cool to put my own spin into the music.

Do you guys have a bandcamp or anything like that where I could listen to you? I'd love to check it out.

Unfortunately not. We've essentially just started really. The 2 guitarist used to jam a lot so have wrote most of the songs we have now. I mainly joined because one of the guitarist is my cousin, and moved to Manchester (where I'm living at the moment) so asked if I wanted to jam. I was pretty impressed by their stuff, and it was cool to be in a band again. It's been around 3 months really. We have 4 songs down. But we only practice once a week. So hopefully we'll have something by the end of the year. Cheers for the interest!

No problem man, I'm always into checking out new artists. Good luck in your endeavors, It's hard writing, and hard being consistent. As long as the juices keep flowing and you never let the feeling get stale, you guys will do fine. I'll be waiting around for that lil' something to be here at the end of the year man, hopefully it'll be exactly what you want from yourselves.

Cheers man! Yeah it's quite difficult, since we pay for the practice place each week. They supply amp and a drum kit. Once I get my drum kit here, we'll have more practice time. Plus I was in my last year at Uni, so I had to concentrate with work, while the other guys had jobs too. But we are pushing to record a little demo soon!

******* A, man. That's a bitch paying for a place to practice, it'll be good when you'll be able to get your equipment with you and everything, hopefully you'll be able to get some amps down the line for yourselves too so you don't have to invest in that kind of thing every week, that's like a second rent for you all. Good luck man, hopefully it'll all work out.

It's 10 pounds each for 5 hours. So it's not too bad. The equipment is not the best. The other guys got all their equipment really, except a PA an mic. Just no where to practice. We'll get our own one soon though, when I'll get my kit up!

Well, yeah. There are more and more ********* like that these days. Some are even going that far and bash people who are not listening a certain band which they like and consider it only form of pure, true metal while all the other bands are **** . I've seen a lot of people like that, but there are ********* like that everywhere. Most metalheads tho are not like that since metal itself is pretty diverse and people are more likely to accept others who listen to different sub-genres.

But to be honest, bashing other genres is common even for pop or whatever stuff on the mainstream radio is called. And trust me, these kind of people should be the ones to learn their favorite genre is not the only one.
