it doesn't make sense anymore for obvious reasons, but when everyone had a dial-up connection and it took ages to load a single page, it was helpful so that you could just google "amazon" and click I'm feeling lucky and go straight to amazon.com instead of waiting for the results to load. I don't know why they still have the button since it's impossible to use it now that every browser allows Google to autosearch as soon as you start typing. I guess it's just there for historical value. Like an old church or something.

It is possible to turn the 'Instant search' off from the settings, though.
