Here's a fun fact:
A lot of people think the word "cracker" originates from the overseers on plantations cracking their whips.

This is untrue.

The real story is that cracker refers to (or at least originally referred to) immigrants of Scottish and/or Irish descent who lived in northern Florida that worked in corn fields.
It's cracking corn. As in the classic song "Fry cracked corn and I don't care. Leela cracked corn and I don't care. Bender cracked corn and he is greeeaaatt! Take that you stupid corn!"

So there's a history lesson.
