My friend is an Xbox no lifer and he said to me the other day "I saw this video on YouTube the other day... And it really made me think.... That I haven't been playing my Xbox enough lately"

I almost cried when I bought another 7850 the other day, then realized the new game generation is right about to come out and if I had waited, I could max out all the newer games too... ;___;

I love games and games love me.

But my wallet doesn't want us to be together.
#198 - sniffythebird (07/02/2013) [-]
Mostly it's just that newer games aren't optimized at all.
You take the same graphics as a 2008 game and slap some OMG DX11 lens flare crap that makes it look 5% better but is 10x as demanding, and you have nearly every new game these days.
User avatar #204 to #198 - deathhardiv (07/02/2013) [-]
I miss the days when game developers were more concerned with gameplay instead of aesthetics.
#215 to #204 - sniffythebird (07/02/2013) [-]
Yep. I used to think FPS games would grow better and better over the years since 2008 or so (when I started playing them a lot more), but now it's just linear campaigns that are so scripted and full of fixed events that the player is basically a puppet, and the game is playing you instead. As for the graphics, not much is improving in the actual detail and realism, but just shiny lens flare effects that look "cool", but are obstructing and annoying as hell, and you can't see **** of what's going on in the game(BF3 much..).

Crysis 1 was an awesome game because it had both unique gameplay and impressive graphics. Even for a 6 year old game, IMO it still looks more realistic than anything else that's coming out these days, and it doesn't have the exaggerated unrealistic effects. Crysis 2 is where it went downhill. Less freedom in gameplay, and just gimmicky OMG DX11 "upgraded" graphics that really don't even look any better, but are way more demanding, so that Nvidia and AMD can make more money from people having to buy better graphics cards.

It's just that moment where you realize these companies just care about making money, and the game industry is just turning into some corporate money sucking business and not making any effort to make quality games. Just show off some cool looking trailers for a mediocre and unoptimized game, overprice everything, and sure enough you can fool the majority of the consumer base.

This is the reason I pirate new games just to try them, and a few hours later going back to old games, thankful that I didn't buy that crap.

anyone know of a good affordable gaming laptop? I know it is smarter to just build a pc but I like to go to friends houses and play games there as well, anyone know any? My limit would be around $1600

I'd recommend not buying a HP laptop/desktop.
I got my desktop when it was on sale(HP Pavilion, not sure which model) and I thought i was getting a pretty nice deal. Computers and parts are expensive where I live.
However, with the AMD/ATI cards (not exactly sure about nvidia) that come with the computer, the drivers are unable to be updated unless though the HP website. I tried for months to update my drivers from the AMD website, and HP never updates the drivers on their website unless the older ones have a lot of problems. So I was stuck there with the basic drivers for my 7450 and had issues with most of my games. I eventually saved up enough money to buy myself an Nvidia card (550 TI) and so far I've had no problems.

pretty much the same thing has happened to me, I've got the pavilion dv6, and the drivers just can't update and I don't know why, it is making games just horrid to play
User avatar #226 to #225 - Zyaph (07/04/2013) [-]
From what I've read, AMD has a contract with HP where their video cards (i think it's just the ones that come with the PC itself, not too sure though) cannot be updated unless through the HP website, which is never updated.

Do some research before you buy any other computer though. It'll save you some headaches.

It's more of a pain for me because the last few laptops I've looked at don't ship to Australia, just around America which is such a pain in the ass

I'm going to wait for the games later this year to come out before I buy mine. but if you need one now go with ASUS www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=34-231-089 it will give you the most bang for the buck.Alienware can go to hell with their 3-5thousand dollar laptops and their fancy gay ass lighting that nobody ******* needs!

Don't get a laptop. Desktops are much cheaper.

I bought an asus g74sx with the 17 inch screen, and can run everything perfectly

Its heavy as **** though, unless you can put it in your car before hand you wont want to carry it around
User avatar #136 to #94 - dsgbiohazard ONLINE (07/02/2013) [-]
Just build a Desktop. They are portable, and not THAT hard to move from one place to another. $1600 is enough to build a PC that can run most, if not all, games on max. Trust me when I say this, a desktop isn't as annoying as it seems.

DON'T buy an Alienware. Please. You'll get a big, noisy and weak PC for a much higher price.
Alienware is PC's Mac.
Look at one of the new ASUS laptops (they just released new 17" gaming laptops)

yeah after looking at their site they are pricing way too high, I'm looking at the asus g75vx at the moment, and its already looking 10x better than the alienware, in price and just in general. Thank you for the advice I'm not the best when it comes to pc stuff
If there is anything else you feel I should know about feel free to tell me
