cutting is honestly one of the stupidest things to me. i don't get it

there are tons of people without clean water, going through revolutions to protest corrupt governments, fighting to survive

there people have little first world problems and what do they do? cut themselves and scar them for life.
they could be doing positive things to fix whatever problems they have, but do they do that?
no, they don't

You have no idea dude.
I was going to comment on the fact that you mentioned "there are tons of people without clean water" etc - completely undermines other peoples problems. how is it relevant to compare peoples problems? the matter at hand is that a person is hurting and they'll go through whatever they can to make them feel better.

But then i noticed your other comment - "there are tons of people (...) fighting to survive.

Self harm is a coping strategy. Self harm is fighting to survive.

Yes, it's sad and it's detrimental; but who the **** are you to judge? you have a quick cig after a fight with your wife? a few beers after a hard day at work? people choose to cope with things differently and it's exactly the ignorant minds like yours that make me lose hope for humanity.

i related it to other world events to show how what they're doing is stupid
there are people raising money to get water to those without it
corrupt government? people are fighting to change it
problem with your life? oh, i'd better hurt myself

i don't see how hurting yourself if "coping" in any sort of way, you just screw yourself over later in life over a temporary problem

and no, i don't drink, i don't smoke, i don't do any of those other "coping strategies" because they're similar. hurt your body, and simply give you more things to worry about

If the world were full of people like you, I guess it'd be a better place.

Cutting isn't just cutting, some people just get that feeling where they want to tear into their wrist or leg or body.

Also, just because I am aware that there are people in Africa starving or some ****, doesn't make my pain, or anyone else's go away, it just makes us more aware of the amount of pain in the world.

Just because you can deal with something, doesn't mean other people can, nor can you honestly say you know exactly what someone else is going through. Being molested when they were younger, having an illness, losing someone close in any form.
If you don't understand it, it doesn't give you a right to say it's stupid.

this is gonna sound, probably very stupid, but you really can't understand it until you do it. good way to imagine it, say something hurts you. hurts you so far down in your mind, that you try to bury it, but you can't, because it always finds a way up, it's always there, it never leaves you alone, and there is nothing you can do, all you want is for it to stop, so you pick up a razor blade, you press it into your skin and you rip it back. you don't do some stupid ******* pussy scratches, no, you RIP through your skin down to veins and bones, you cut through the fat, the flesh, everything, because you hope, you JUST HOPE, that maybe it'll go, maybe it'll help, because there is nothing else you can do.

While I agree with your point, there is a difference between whiny teenage faggots and people who are too far gone to care. Some people actually do suffer from mental illness and don't just fake it for attention or to be "cool" (I really hate people who think being 'insane' is something to brag about).

Eventually the people with actual mental illness will most likely seek help, while the whiny teenage faggots will sit there and indulge in their sadness, whine and cry about it, cut themselves shallowly, take pictures, and post their stupid **** on Tumblr.

It rustles my jimmies, too.

I 100% Agree with you, i really do, but when people are always telling everyone, Well (this country) is so bad and you have all of this stuff (blah blah blah) you know the speech. I think. Yes this country is truly in a bad condition, but just because they have problems doesn't mean that i can't as well. I don't agree with cutting, but the third world country thing, just doesn't make our problems go away no matter if one is worse than the other.

sincerely that logic is stupid, according to maslow's hierarchy of needs pyramid, once we have the most basic needs fulfilled (food, water, clothing, a roof), we start needing other stuff (safety > love/family > Esteem/Respect of oneself and others).

Those people have it pretty bad, no denying that, but because of them should I not feel bad because I'm not loved? Because someone else, not even indirectly related to me, has it bad, I can't feel like ****? I heard someone who cut himself say that he was at a point that he didn't differentiate from being awake or sleeping, he was emotionally numb, happy or sad didn't mean anything to him, and he felt that cutting himself was the only thing that made him feel something.

Of course there are whiny bitches who do it just for attention, but that doesn't give you right to generalize the group, or compare them to people in dire needs.

Some people do it because it's the only thing in their life that they can control, and the pain of cutting helps them forget things for a while, for some it kind of becomes an addiction.

Saying you can't be sad because someone has it worse than you is like saying you can't be happy because someone has it better than you. Cutting might not bet he best solution to your problems, but ******** on people because of it won't help with whatever depression they might be going though.

As a stupid kid that used to cut and can now look back on it as an adult, I can say that it is almost like doing a drug. When you are depressed about something and feeling intense emotional pain, cutting causes physical pain and releases a high in your body. To this day I still enjoy pain and have a very high pain tolerance. Just imagine having something wrong with you that makes you feel so bad emotionally that the only way to escape it is to carve into your skin and trade it momentarily with physical pain. I think some people are just born with a disorder. I have a good job, friends, a hot GF, and I am going to college but I could easily get back into the habit if I were as weak minded as I used to be...

Because everyone's hell is their own. Yes, some people suffer more than you do, or have it worse than you do, but that doesn't matter to the person suffering. If they had the ability to tell themselves that it wasn't that bad, that other people are hurting more, and that they actually have it pretty good, they wouldn't be suffering. There is no logic to it at that point. Reason has left.

I'm not saying cutting is right, because it's not. I have had friends who do it, and I've had screaming fights with them over it. But if someone is to the point of doing that to themselves, then they are feeling a pain I can't understand, justified or not.

Pain is pain, and turmoil is turmoil. Just try to be there for people when they get that far gone, and try to bring 'em back.

Sorry FJ, but if this individual was actually going to cut themselves, they wouldn't post about it on the internet. They'd do it themselves, alone, and they wouldn't tell a soul. If they were really suffering, that is. People like this, unfortunate as it is, are attention whoring. And yes, they may cut themselves, which is a stupid thing to do. But, like a woman crying rape because she feels bad about having slept with a guy, people like this make the issue of people with depression seem ridiculous. Shower me with reds, I don't care, but I'm ******* sick of whiny little emos like this attention-whoring and mutilating themselves for the sake of five second sympathy.

The dude helping is a decent chap though, if deluded.

The majority of people who cut do want to be a victim, and seek attention. It's really pathetic. Emos and psycho-girlfriend types are the most likely to do it. WHat annoys me the most is, as I said before, how it makes people who cut because they genuinely have a problem look like douchebags. But, we need to stop treating cutters like heros, they are not. It stems from people seeing a story, like the one about Peter Pan huggina girl and calling her a "warrior" because he saw her scars just encourages these sick, insecure douchebags who have so many first world problems and such a low IQ they are incapeable of functioning without their daily attention. Scumbags.
