Eeeeh...
Atleast in my opinion, self-respect and the ability to refrain yourself from gorging on food counts as a "good personality".

I agree with both aspects of the argument you have created.
On one hand, there are whalelords who you see at carnivals and McDonalds ordering one of everything and then scarfing it down like it was their last meal. They tend to flock to these places in herds, too, making it impossible to walk past without rubbing at least one sweaty, never-been-properly-cleaned fat fold.
On the other hand, there are people who are big boned (an x-ray will show it) or have literally no thyroid. These people are easier to spot because they aren't shoving food down their faces and typically don't have as many rolls.
Me, my medication made me shove food down my face even when not hungry (it affected my impulses) and I got fat. To counteract this, though, I'm now dieting and exercising and understand it was completely my fault that I got fat.
TL;DR Most fatties have no self control and don't know how to stop eating and ride a bike or run for fifteen-twenty minutes. Sometimes though you'll find a big person who is always dieting and doesn't look like a mountain of whipped cream, they were born with a condition.

Big boned is almost nonexistant. Even if you are relativaly big boned, you might have a slightly larger figure, but bones will never make you appear fat. Also, I agree with the medical conditions thing, such as a slow metabolism, but people use that excuse too much. It really isn't is common as one would have you think.
Good for you for doing something about your weight, though. There's nothing I hate more than a fat pig who doesn't even try to do something about it.

I wouldn't call myself a pig yet, but I understand that I shouldn't let a side effect of a medication be an excuse.
There are some people I know of, and they fall into the category of not really having rolls, just a thick frame. Pituitary gland conditions can also cause that, but somebody like the sleeping "beauty" in this picture is definitely just an overeater.
Personally, I think that excessive weight gain is a disease and should be treated as such. A lot of overweight people think it won't hurt them, but as they get older they'll find it's harder to keep the weight off or to loose weight, and everyone knows that it causes many health problems, and can kill you.

By that logic, smoking is a disease.
Eating, much like smoking, is an addiction. There's not much people can do for smokers and overeaeters, they just need to have the willpower to get over it themselves.

Smoking is a disease as well.
It's a mental condition which requires you to do something harmful. Similar to depression, and that is a disease.

Woo, another person on the internet who thinks every fat person is that way because they like to be or something.
Yeah, if a person is addicted to food for one reason or another, it's not that easy to just stop eating and stop being fat. It's the same as being addicted to cigarettes or alcohol. It takes a lot of self control and most often tons of time.
Seriously, get over yourself. Just because you're a pampered bitch and haven't had anything go wrong in your life doesn't mean everyone's that lucky.

I get bitched at and called disgusting for smoking cigarettes, and you know what? I'm damn glad for it. Smoking is disgusting, and it's really unhealthy, so people should disapprove of it. Doesn't mean I'm going to quit because I don't give a ****, but people shouldn't be like, "Oh, you're an addict! It's not your fault!" Dafuq you mean? It's ENTIRELY my fault.
Being fat is disgusting. I'm not going to tell fatties it's not, and you're beautiful, and you should love your body and all that. Loving your body would mean not letting yourself turn into a land whale in the first place. It's called having self-respect and being healthy.

I love my body but I let it get fat (180 at 5'6').
It's my fault, and I'm exercising and dieting, but that doesn't affect my love of me.
I'd do me. Would you do me?

"If you're fat, it's your fault. Period."
Tell that to the chick with PCOS, Hypothyroidism, and a genetically slow metabolism.
You sound both ignorant and aggressive. What a horrible combo.

I love this argument. I think we can all see why nobody fat came out of Auschwitz and why it's a flawed idea, but it's great nonetheless. Made me chuckle.

Actually, unless they were obese they were more likely to survive starvation.

eh.... I agree with elements of both arguments here. It is very hard to overcome weight problems if you have some sort of genuine disorder causing it. But then if I had something like that then I'd see it as an illness like any other, and be determined to beat it. Giving in to any illness just makes you sicker, and eating disorders are no different.
