My current gigging bass.

Currently running through a Trace Elliot AH250 head and a matching 118" cabinet. All vintage from 70's stuff too!

Was thinking about getting a 5 string sterling sub but I wasn't fond of. How thick the neck was. Actual 4 string sterlings' necks are much thinner, is the subject series neck thinner too?
User avatar #118 to #62 - stuartbewbzz ONLINE (06/20/2013) [-]
I actually find the neck really comfortable to play! It's just the right size for my hands haha! The 5 string isn't much larger either.. I think you just have small hands bro ;)
User avatar #181 to #118 - imYOU (06/21/2013) [-]
Nope, my hands are quite large. Just more comfortable with faster necks

User avatar #29 to #4 - Dakafal ONLINE (06/20/2013) [-]
Is that a Hagstrom? I never knew they made basses, but I've had four of their guitars.
User avatar #30 to #29 - thebeatman (06/20/2013) [-]
It's a Hagstrom Viking bass
User avatar #39 to #30 - commandwolf (06/20/2013) [-]
Hagstrom you say?
I've got an old 60s/70s Hagstrom. Little torn up, but it really great. Don't play it much, now that I've got a Greg Bennett Corsair, but they're both great.
User avatar #31 to #30 - Dakafal ONLINE (06/20/2013) [-]

Those are pretty awesome. However, I don't like how easy they are, compared to what I got (pic related).

the bass guitar is like an easier version of upright... there's no thumb position, every note is right there making tuning easy, playing upright means that making yourself comfortable is half the battle, there's no easy way to increase volume other than simply bowing faster or pizzing harder, and it's impossible to tune a bass without a bow unless you have really good relative pitch or a tuner

the bass guitar is literally just the upright but easier, now of course I'm not saying bass guitar is inferior, it's definitely a far more versatile instrument because of how much easier things like chords, multi-finger pizzing, and slapping are, but it's definitely not the harder instrument
User avatar #176 to #175 - rainbowrush ONLINE (06/21/2013) [-]
It's a joke. Playing upright requires much skill, playing a normal bass guitar does not (at least not for earlier levels.) I do love playing my bass, tho.
#177 to #176 - uncontrebasse (06/21/2013) [-]
oh okay, I feel like I nerd raged a little hard unnecessarily haha

even though upright takes more skill, I love the work of jerry barnes and bernard edwards (bassists for Chic), definitely my two favourite bassists out of all upright/guitar players

i have one. dont bother, they suck. the bridge stripped, the knobs broke, the the strap screws stripped, the tuning machines broke. all for a "meh" sound

dude that thing is beautiful, what is it and how does it play?
#178 to #26 - lieflief (06/21/2013) [-]
Thanks man, I actually made it myself, high school woodshop! Its actually the 4th I've made, I can post the rest if you want. But it plays like a dream, it's a neck-thru, solid piece neck and fretboard. Body is Ash/Maple and neck is maple. But it's definately my favorite! Based off a fender jazz, but $1000 cheaper!
#180 to #178 - uncontrebasse (06/21/2013) [-]
That is way too cool! Shame they don't have woodshop at my school, so I'm still stuck looking for a bass guitar I like. Would you have any idea what sort of bass puts out a sort of disco bass sound (from say the 80s) when you play near the bridge? The only bass I've ever had that played like that is my school's Thunderbass, which is older than I am, so yeah, haha.
#184 to #180 - lieflief (06/21/2013) [-]
Hmm, well I'm more of a funk/jazz/prog player but according to the internet, the fender jazz bass was well liked among disco music because of how powerful it was and because it stood out among other instruments, so I'd have to recommend a Mexi Fender Jazz, which wouldn't be too expensive.
#185 to #184 - uncontrebasse (06/22/2013) [-]
