Because if children hear curses they'll get the weird idea in their heads that people curse in real life.

The story of the FCC is a strange one.
It all started about 80 years ago when a priest in Mississippi heard something on the radio that he didn't like. So he wrote to the president and said he should create a department to make sure you couldn't say offensive things on the radio.

Back then there was usually only one or two radio channels per state, and about 10 news papers in each city, so it was reasoned that people could still get news with free speech in the papers, so that it was OK to censor the radio. So they said "if you dislike what it says in the paper you can buy another paper, but you can't always change the radio station." And so the FCC was born as a temporary measure until there were enough radio stations so that there was one for each taste.
But then it just sort of... stayed.
Now every town has more radio and TV stations than news papers, but the FCC is still there as the proud guardians of moral virtues, making sure that anyone who damages the collective psyche of the nation by saying a bad word is punished with a hefty fine.

Oh, and the FCC only answers directly to the president, so the congress or voters can't affect them.

And somehow I know all this without even being American.

I am Andrew Ryan, and I'm here to ask you a question. Why do you not choose something different? Why not choose... Rapture, a city where the artist does not fear the censor?

Because "freedom of speech" is the freedom to hold an opinion without persecution, not the freedom to be an asshole. Irony intended to the fullest.

If you're offended by any word, in any language, it's probably because your parents were unfit to raise a child...
They were too stupid, they should have been neutered...
Because all it is, is a sound you can make with you're mouth... It's not a weakness that you can have naturally...
When you come out of that, pink ugly hole, onto this planet. you're nothing more than a gooey, shrieking ball of weakness...That's all ya are, you're just weak, you're nothing but weak...And your parents look at that, and they think..."Not weak enough!"
We can make this thing even weaker by training it, Pavlovian, to react poorly to different sounds that you can make with your mouth...
"We'll list 'em off, and if anyone ever says this sound : burrburrgigigileedleleedle, that's the worst thing they can call you! So make sure to recoil and cry and be hurt and devastated and eat ice-cream on a couch for days...and write a song about it...
You wouldn't do that otherwise! you'd just be happier...if your parents didn't **** it up with their stupid! You'd just be a happier person, i could just walk right up to you and say "Hey, Cunt!" and you'd go "No, I'm Rebecca. But i guess i have a face that looks like a a lotta different people...What's your name? ... Welcome to Salt-Lake"
