Star wars is rubbish and is widely acknowledged as a rip off of flash gordon.

RIP OFF? I guess Kill Bill is a rip off of Lady Snowblood. No Star Wars is a homage of tons of different films and serials and literature work. It borrows from Flash Gordon, adventure serials, the Hidden Fortress, other literature works and fairytales. Because that's what Star Wars is, a scifi modern fantasy tale. It's obvious you don't know **** about film so dont talk about it

Before Lucas made Star wars he unsuccessfully attempted to obtain the rights to flash gordon he then came out with star wars, star wars has many similarity to flash gordon such as the opening title, he also utilized many of the editing techniques, then there is the rebels vs imperial forces, the cloud city, and the ice planet.

Those glorious editing techniques. The outward diamond transition has been utilized by every power point presentation by 10 year olds ever and the titles look nothing alike.
The imperial vs rebel tends to be a generic theme of several wars, fictitious or not and the lackluster imagination of most scifi writers tend to have single ecosystem type planets. I still don't see how they are in any way rip-offs and I am a Flash Gordon fan.

It is just quite curious that lucas tried to get the rights to flash gordon and when he was refused he made a movie with similar premises.

Lucas wanted to make a sequel/remake and when he was denied the rights and control he wanted, he started on another project, as every film maker would do. His film making prowess lies with scifi action and so that's what he did. In terms of plot, they are nothing alike.
