That's because getting an innocent man a retrial isn’t funny, it’s quite serious. Maybe you should use a different platform to raise the issue.

to ban creationism **** you dude because lats time i checked evolution was still just a theory so basically evolution holds as much credit in schools as creationism and before people say "they have proof of evolution" no they think they might have found proof but it still a theory

creationism is stupid and if anyone believes in it, you need to grow up, manning wont ever get freed his case is closed, snowden should be hunted down and killed, which he probably already is knowing us, so really what else is there to petition for?

It's not banning creationism in general, just banning the teaching of creationism in science classes.

It's only fair, since science is based solely on evidence based findings and creationism is about faith.

Why not teach both scientific theories and creationism.

We really don't have that much support for the big bang theory (what with it breaking the laws of physics and whatnot) so why not teach both. They're both theories of existence that both have negligible evidence of support.

And yet another thing, creationism in any class i have taken has only been mentioned in passing. The exception being English 4, considering the bible is one hell of a book to analyze and influences quite a lot of literature.

I'm not trying to bash scientific theories or anything, I just find the act of banning an idea to be slightly repulsive.

It's only banning it because no religious doctrine holds any empirical evidence to support its self. Though the Big Bang is not yet proven it does have significant backings to justify it's claim (i.e. Dark matter, receding space, galaxies moving away from a central point, etc)

But again, it's only to be banned in science classes because creationism simply isn't science. If there is no evidence or any way to find evidence you can't claim it as a theory that belongs next to a theory that has some backing to it.

I'm not saying religion is wrong or any of that, I'm just saying that it would be extremely confusing to people to put religious context next to scientific evidence that says otherwise. It's like teaching astronomy and astrology in the same class.

People should not be down voting this, you presented a well thought out comment with legitimate examples and sound logic. The stubbornness of some people and their inability to accept logic bothers me. Creationism ≠ Science, they are totally different subjects

Indeed they are, I have no problem with with either but they shouldn't be taught as equals in the same classroom. But then again, people will be people.

Also, it's nice to see a fellow Redditor around here.

Banning creationism is a useful and great thing for America? Even as a non-creationist I see no sense in this, it won't help anybody. I think banning creationism is a dick move, not petitioning to let us film Obama look for his super suit.
As a non-American, I'd love to see a US president do something funny, entertaining and not serious.

I wasn't even aware that creationism was taught in science class in America, and it doesn't really make sense to me, do they not have Religious Education class?
But! This petition to have creationism removed from the school curriculum was most likely started by people wanting to spite Creationists, not somebody worried education.

No, it's not a petition to remove it from school curriculum. It's a petition to prevent it being taught in science class, and only science class.

Ah yeah, I meant to say science curriculum, I had typed almost a whole different comment and changed it.
But don't schools in the US have RE, Religious Education? My school had it for about 2 hours a week for first and second year students (Middle school Freshman and the year after Freshman, sophomore is it?) after that we could choose to drop it.

It wasn't focused on any particular religion, it taught us about many. I really don't remember a thing from it though...

Some schools offer courses on theology, but they are generally electives or are handled as clubs. Pretty much all private schools are religious though.
