The student is usually 5 or 6 years older than than the grade number.

A graduating high school senior is 18 usually. So, fourteen would be correct.

So they would be 13, and then some at the end of the year would turn 14, basically. I don't remember any 14 year old kids when I was in middle school, I know that there are some 13 year olds in 9th grade and mostly 14 year olds.

Vaguely, some people have birthdays at the beginning of the school year, some at the end, it varies. Not that I'm really trying to argue this point though, haha.

No no, just trying to just piece it together from memory and relating it to the ages of some kids I know and babysit. I think my friends kid sister is 12 I think and she's going into the 8th grade, she's probably just going to hit 13 while still in that grade. It all depends on those birthdays.
