Actually, realistically 1 in 4 is correct. My first week at college, we had to do a scavenger hunt in our library, one of the clues was found on a DVD about rape and sexual assault. It stated the 1 in 4 idea, and I was curious because I thought that was too high, so I researched it. But according to the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network, it's true. I found out later that of all four of the girls living in my dorm suite that year, one of them was raped. I found this to be consistent for every suite in on my hall. Also according to RAINN, 54% of rape victims never report their claims for all of the reasons everyone has already stated, but the main reason is the fear that their attacker will come back and punish them if they attempt to report it. You see, it is extremely difficult to prove that you've been raped, so only about 97% of rapists will ever spend a day in jail. That's probably why only about 300,000 women and 93,000 men are raped each year.
