Let's just appease all atheists like this; religion is dying. That is all. You may not see it if you live in say, murrica, but in Denmark you'd be hardpressed to find a student to be confirmed christian who genuinely believes in God. If there are highly religious people, they are all quiet about it.
Science and common human decency will prevail, but it takes time for millennium old traditions to fade. Have patience, and don't be a dick. Have a nice day
Possibly, but not in our lifetime. We'll be long gone before religion follows us.
Also, the nordic countries were never really that big on religion in the first place, there are still billions of religious people all around the world and they won't go away for a long long time.
Have patience, and be happy that the religions themselves are fading too, as well as the numbers. Todays christians would be blasphemers some time back. They still hold onto a book tainted with past human cruelty, but they ignore. It's playing a more passive role in society. It is fading in many ways, and hopefully societies with suppression due to it, like islam, will be liberated from it. Science and human decency will prevail, i am sure of it
You're too optimistic. Science? Yes. Human decency? No. Once it's gone something worse will inevitably take it's place, a new tool to control the masses.. with science. Humans are all a bunch of selfish ********, and the ones that are not (the notable ones like MLKJ or Ghandi) who advocate that human decency you mention, all get shot.
I try to be realistic, but we're dealing with lots of unknown factors. On a whole, humanity is a big pile of ********, but on a personal level, only few are ******* morons. People will be good people because of human decency, and not because of religion, and they won't be acting like dicks because of it either. There will always be bullocks in humanity, and i think futurama makes the best prediction of how we will be and always will be.
But be happy for how it is now, cause it sure as hell has been dahm much worse. Not saying we're doing particularly well, but im just glad we arent burning witches and using bloodletting for everything and such.
As a fellow Dane, I'd point out to you that there are religious nutjobs who even get respected.
I've met plenty of religious students as well, a story I feel worth sharing though is this, my dad watched DR2
(Which is a channel you're forced to pay for here in Denmark)
and as I walked by, I heard a priest talk, as any obnoxious atheist, I wanted to hear what she had to say.
- Paraphrased to the best of my abilities ''If you don't believe in individual freedom and an anti socialist form of government, you are
Insulting God if I'm a socialist, on government funded TV...
This women is well paid and was educated at a ******* university, and the journalist just nodded and went on to other speakers, whereas none of em were atheists to my knowledge.
I thought Christianity was just about dead as well for many years, but after my last catholic girlfriend, who didn't believe in evolution. I'm starting to open my eyes.
Humanity needs people who's intolerant to nonsense, refute lies and demand integrity, and I don't see reason to why we should respect religion in any way
Pff pay for DR2, just don't open the door for the incasso.
I agree wholly with the last statement. Deep in me there's a hatred, annoyance and bemusement of it, but it's no good to let that rule. I am so allergic to ******** that reading Pillars of the Earth was a bit of an ordeal to me.
It just so happens that all human societies, people have had religious delusions, all fueled by a wish of comfort, fear of death, someone wanting to control others, and similar reasons. I have talked to a handful of religious people on here, and it boils down to that. They arent religious, they just want whatever eases their mind, and they arent bad people. Just mildly delusional about some things.
A part of me wants to be tolerant and just wait for it to fade away and appreciate the beauty of knowledge. Another wants to destroy religion already and free people from this plague of the mind
I'm not one to hate the religious as well, I knew of their religion prior to starting a relationship with both of the catholic girlfriends I've had. If I hated religious people I would never have initiated relations with em, I've got both hard atheists and truly religious people as friends.
But this is no excuse for going lazy on ideology, both politically and philosophically,
Unless it's someone you're going to raise kids with, I don't see a problem mingling with people of completely different worldviews, and I claim both to my Muslim, pseudo spirit religion, ghost believing, Christian friends, that they are,
not just of a different opinion than me, but truly wrong as a factual statement.
It's become popular to say, people should believe what they'd like, don't mess with that.
Obviously people should believe exactly what they'd like, be it racist or thinking lizards control world, but they should not be exempt from criticism.
Denmark have gotten incredibly lazy when it comes to demanding integrity, absolutely ridiculous anti racism laws that includes religion, we still got a law that forbids blasphemy, and multiple government funded companies that cost far more than what it's worth.
People don't need to lay back and relax, they need torches and pitchforks
This is where i have a problem due to high ******** intolerance.. It's kinda ********, but i dont associate much with people anyway.
I find it also truly hilarious when they choose to believe something and ignore all reason and logic, how they can chose to be so truly ignorant to keep onto their faith. Due to my curiosity on this subject, i wouldnt be able to help myself from prodding them to see their defense system working. Its like watching an armadillo turn into a ball. It's so delightful to see. Its a truly marvelous psychology it takes to be religious, and i understand none of it.
Im a curious person and i want to understand everything
