One doesn't excludes the other, maybe we're under influence of both effects. A push and a pull.

I think there's an even mix spread out across the world.
Obviously China has fallen under Orwell's premonition, but I think the West has tragically fallen on the sword carved by Huxley.

I've lived my first 7 years in a communist country, and I assure you that both were right. They just made predictions on different systems.

so what you're saying is, coffee is a source of information?

The majority of us humans don't have to worry about dying on most days, so we are able to preoccupy ourselves with redundancies - and we're STILL making scientific progress.

I'd call that a victory.

But this tells us both are far more true than they should be...

I think both were right in a sense.

Both of them are right. Orwell believes that the government will oppress the people and take away their free will. Look at North Korea, Nazi Germany, and China. All use government power and propaganda to control the populace. Huxley feared that the nature of people would lead to them oppressing themselves, for this we look at America, England, Canada, or any developed nation. The media, video games, and even sites like this are in some way oppressive. They influence our daily lives and our personal opinions. But it comes down to each individual person to decide if they want to fall into those ways. Yes we can seek out entertainment and happiness, but to defeat Huxley's idea of oppression we need to seek out the truth, question the world around us, and think critically.

The world isn't black and white, and a mixture of both is prevalent in our world.

What we should really be asking ourselves, and really be worrying about, is the fact that mankind seems to always choose the path of self destruction.

We have survived thus far, but eventually our species and society may stagnate or corrupt itself to the point of no return.

Frankly put, the scale of our actions are growing tremendously, and the consequences will be thus grander. We have so many human beings on the planet that no one matters anymore; we are all disposable, like ants and insects. Resources will grow more scarce, economies more broken. Stagnation is the what I fear.

Both were right. Both are happening simultaneously. One is used to sooth us into submission to the fear, the other is used to assure the fears grip and keep us down.

You people are right about one thing, a scapegoat is being used... The scapegoat is the government. You have all the means you need to find the "truth." Thing is no one ******* bothers to do so. The government doesn't need to oppress you, you're doing a damn fine job of it yourselves. And guess what, it's not gonna ******* change, so make your choice:

1. Sit down, shut up, and stop preaching **** about the government because you sure as **** aren't going to do anything about it by bitching.

2. Get off your ass and do something about it if you're so against it. Sure you won't accomplish Jack **** but at least you'll be able to say you tried.

Personally I think option one is better, you won't accomplish anything either way but at least one is the easier way of doing nothing.

In this comments section:

Bunch of pseudo-intellectuals who think reading Huxley and opining on the "corruption" of society.

You know what other institution says enjoying one's self is wrong?
Organized Religion.
Why do they say it? So that you're content doing **** they ask you to do, without question.

"Orgy porgy" I don't really know why, but that phrase just pisses me right the **** off.
It was like the phrase "Who is John Galt?" from Atlas Shrugged, I wanted to deck the next person that used it.
