Im 16 and do a small workout every night (pushups and situps), i dont have any lifts or anything, my sport is bboy (breakdance) and its helps a lot with my strength.

I go to the gym like once in 2 months, and then i use the treadmill. luckily i dont pay for my membership, i use my sisters

I do pushups at home, the gym is something you use if you want to train a specific part of your body, with pushups and situps you train more than only you arms or stomach.

I also do breakdance, powermoves requires a lot of strenght, doing it often you also train your muscles.

You really only need a bench, a pull bar and adjustable weights. i got 2 150 lb weights for 200$ on amazon and the bench is only 50-60 dollars ( get the adjustable incline and crush type) then the pullup bar is only 40 dollars for a good one. then you just need to get cardio and your good.

You actually do get as good of a workout when you're home, who the **** told you otherwise? Go to scooby1961s website, it has all of the information you need on how to workout efficiently at home. another scoobster! his site is very good but he puts heavy emphasis on low calorie diets which are effective for definition but you build muscle at a snail pace. i prefer arnolds approach in his book with heavy calorie diets to support muscle grown, granted you do need to cut at the end of it but it makes building muscle so much easier.

Yeah muscle training with lifting weights can destroy and stunt your growth plates. Conditioning is fine you just won't build a lot of bulk. You can lift weights, but you can't overdue it.

Used to work out at a gym, but I've been a little more relaxed with my sessions, so I've started working out at home.

Working out at home gives me bonuses like not paying for memberships, having no one around to judge, and I can rip a really nasty one without someone running around screaming and puking by the smell of it.

There is a species in the gym called "crossfiters", they tend to lift weights in the weirdest ways, preferably dangerous for themselves and other people! And they make their own inefficient exercises with strange names.

Crossfit might be good to be all round fit, but they don't get very strong, big or get good cardio, just a little bit of everything...

The "pullups" they are doing is done with a jumping/swinging movement called "Kipping", so the pullups are 10 times easier. Its not good for your joints, it doesn't build muscles very effective, its many better ways to get stronger too... so I think its just a way to tell your friends "Hey, I just did 25 pullups omg im so strong"
and maybe get more "explosive" muscles..?

Yeah, I can agree on that, you get a very "functional body" to put it like that! But it all depends on what you want to achieve with your training. If you want to get big; do as "lifters", if you want to get a good stamina; run and do cardio (eww) and if you just want to be generally fit and functional, I can't deny that crossfit is a good way of achieving that goal... But since i study sport science, I know more efficient ways of reaching your goals!
