my soul died a little when america did that, then again i cant argue with miguel and Tulio.

But tomato sauce (which is mostly cooked, seasoned, crushed tomatoes) has counted as a serving of vegetables for years, all they were saying was that there is enough tomato sauce on a serving of pizza, so it counts as a serving of vegetables when you eat pizza. Makes perfect since to me.
#17 to #16 - restfullwicked (06/07/2013) [-]
thats all well and good but for two points. 1 Just because it has a Vegetables on it, dosnt make it a vegetable, a BLT isnt a vegetable for example.
and 2 a tomato is a ******* fruit anyway.
User avatar #23 to #17 - komandantmirkoo (06/07/2013) [-]
exactly. i roasted a whole pig with an apple in it's mouth and i called it a fruit cup.
User avatar #64 to #23 - neutralgray (06/07/2013) [-]
That's not what he's bloody saying. If you ate the pig you got TONS of meat but if you ate the apple you did receive some fruit nutrition. They were saying pizza contains a serving of vegetables. Not that the pizza is in and of itself a serving of vegetables.
User avatar #31 to #17 - lafuriaroja (06/07/2013) [-]
At no point did they say pizza was a vegetable. They said it included a SERVING of vegetables. However, the internet saw this and said "HURRR DURRRR AMURICA THINGS PIZZA IS A VEGETABLE!!!1111!!11!!!"

#37 to #31 - restfullwicked (06/07/2013) [-]
your right. because counting a pile of bread and melted cheese as one of your five a day makes perfect sense. along with Porkchops and applesauce, turkey and cranberys and most importantly raisenets
User avatar #87 to #37 - lafuriaroja (06/07/2013) [-]
Nobody said it made it healthy. But if you ate a fruit salad that happened to have chunks of fried chicken in it it would still constitute a serving of fruit.
#89 to #87 - restfullwicked (06/07/2013) [-]
yea but it wouldnt be considered ******* KFC would it.
User avatar #90 to #89 - lafuriaroja (06/07/2013) [-]
I don't understand the point that you're trying to make. You're not disagreeing with me. Nobody at any point in time said that pizza was a vegetable.
#91 to #90 - restfullwicked (06/07/2013) [-]
its the attitude, all im saying is that yes. tomato pure contains tomato. that does not make Pizza healthy not does it make sugar, water and chemicals a vegetable.
I just think its america trying to lower the bar for people. it doesn't make the decision any less stupid.
User avatar #92 to #91 - lafuriaroja (06/07/2013) [-]
I have to problems with what you just wrote.
Firstly: Pizza -- in and of itself -- is not unhealthy. At its core it is bread, tomato sauce and cheese. These three ingredients are not unhealthy at all. However if you shovel a pie from Domino's down your face-hole then, yes, it's going to make you fat.
Secondly: You are making vegetables synonymous with the word "healthy." That is simply not the case. If you battered up some broccoli and fried it the resulting snack wouldn't be healthy even though it's essentially all vegetable. All congress did was state a fact. They did not say it was healthy or not. They just said it like it is.
#93 to #92 - restfullwicked (06/07/2013) [-]
an average slice of pizza contains a lot of calories and fats. while it is true that bread and cheese are not unhealthy, they are not something that should be eaten for every meal of our daily intake of calories. buy suggesting that Pizza is a serving of vegetables, you suggest that it is Ok to eat it all the time. you are a rational person, but to an idiot that is a totally reasonable idea. second while yes, Vegetables and fruits are only as healthy as you prepare them, some like grapes and bananas are dangerous for diabetics because they contain a lot of sugar. but by no other countries standard can Tomato Puree be considered a serving of vegetables. well over 25% of each meal should be vegetable or fruit based. that is what most food authorities consider a serving of vegetables, are you seriously telling me that a thin layer of squashed tomato really qualifies? That would never wash with any other nation on the planet.
User avatar #94 to #93 - lafuriaroja (06/07/2013) [-]
An average slice of pizza contains around 200-275 calories. And nobody ever said that pizza should be eaten for every meal of every day. If your argument is that stupid people will see this and be inspired to eat pizza all the time, then I would say that it is slightly plausible. However, I really find it hard to believe that too many people who aren't already in awful shape would take this information and run with it.
#95 to #94 - restfullwicked (06/07/2013) [-]
i believe in educating people rather than make it easier. i just think that there is a minimum that you need to require as a human being.
England is just as bad, we teach kids to eat 5 pieces of fruit and veg a day. but the rest of europe has higher results than us. we just use five because that was the number we could convince people to actually eat.
but what we do say is that it needs to be fresh. nothing with chemicals and non processed. off the tree fruits.
But as i said. i no other country would that have been taken seriously. like i said. no other country would have accepted that as a serious decision. If i walked into the houses of Parlement tomorrow (Also seriously? parlement isnt a word spellcheck recognises?) and made a proposal to consider pizza as one of those five a day, i would be laughed out of the building. America not only considered it. They ******* agreed.

i dont want to be a brit that just constantly points out all the dumb **** america does. but even so sometimes america does some truly stupid things. i just happen to think this is one of them
User avatar #96 to #95 - lafuriaroja (06/07/2013) [-]
Spellcheck doesn't recognize it because it's spelled "Parliament." And I'm not disagreeing with you. I don't think it's particularly smart either. I'm from NYC, so I eat a lot of pizza. But when I have a slice I don't think of it as knocking out one of my daily veggie requirements. My original comment was just that the US Congress never said that pizza WAS a vegetable. Opinions about the actual decision are obviously up for debate.
#97 to #96 - restfullwicked (06/07/2013) [-]
Google lied to me.
Also fair enough. i can understand that. but i stand by what i said. not only is it not smart. a tomato is a fruit anyway.
then again i dont know what i expected, the whole ******* country pronounces it wrong in the first place.
