My elementary school teacher told my class "Always presume the person you are talking to are an idiot."
That was the best thing that teacher ever taught me.

was the teacher presuming that you were idiots when he said that?

So you're saying the best way to go through life is being a condescending twat to everyone?
I know what you mean, talk to people so they can understand what you are saying perfectly blah blah blah.

How about you try a week of treating people like human beings.

Smile and the world smiles back. <--- The best thing I ever learned.

it's more of "if you do not know the person, assume they are stupid" as in, do not trust them, nor their ideas unless you get to know them better

Well, that depends on how you interpret what she said. If one reads it like "treat everyone as an condescending twat", one might do so. But I don't see it that way. I rather have it in the back of my head all the time, knowing that people might not realize what I'm on about.
That smile advice really is true, and that's also something I try to live after.

I love teachers who learn you life lessons.
My college teacher told me that "everyone in life is out to **** you, you just need to **** 'em harder".

That's how i became a sex offender.

both of them are grammarly correct, but more stupid is the more proper use of the word

grammatically*

But yeah, stupider is grammatically correct. It is perfectly fine to use it. It is more widely accepted that more stupid is correct, but that does not make stupider wrong.

Actually, intelligence is skewed upward. Slightly more than 50% of all people are below average.

Well, not necessarily half that are stupider than that. The average could be slightly skewed downward by a relatively low number of people that are incredibly dumb, or skewed upward by a number of people that are abnormally smart. Should it be skewed upward, then over half will be dumber than the average. Should it be skewed downward then less that half will be dumber than the average.

But what if it's not an even spread, and most people are smarter than average, there are just a few really stupid people.

that is literally impossible, the average person would be the exact middle in the group.

deleted for repeated word, but basically that 100 is an outlier and would be considered a poor point in a study.

Lots of smart people that are 10% smarter than average, a few dumb people who are 50% dumber than average. Not impossible.

This quote has always bothered me. There's a difference between the average, or mean, of a population and the median. The median is the value in the middle, the point that ends the second quartile and begins the third.
Look at it like this: Let P be a population with n=5 values, as follows:
1st- 1
2nd - 1
3rd - 1
4th - 1
5th - 100
The mean, or average, is 20.8, while the median is 1. So 80% is less than the mean, not 50%. That means we can (and I think we do) have some INCREDIBLY stupid people, who pull the average intelligence down.

End Statistical rant.

Everyone thinks they are smarter than the average person. Statistically, someone has to be wrong.
