even though that would be a brilliant and evil plan you are forgetting that then the PS4 will dominate the market and Microsoft lost TONS of money on the development and production of the Xbox one

But last I checked I had a pirate version of windows 7 and torrents....

So that strategy is not as effective as having a console, because at least the first few years there will be no way to jailbreak the console.

based on what? Their sales on the firsts of video game franchises in the 80's?
All they've done is remake titles that were best sellers in the third generation of gaming passing them off as sequels. The biggest reason people like it is for the nostalgia. Stop living in the past. I can appreciate those games having played them myself but I can say without a doubt that Nintendo is not above Microsoft or Sony in the gaming industry of today.
I'm not trying to belittle Nintendo's achievement with Super Mario Bros in THAT TIME but that kind of game won't have a place in the heads nor hearts of future gamers.

Also, 'superior company' is your opinion. Don't make your ignorant nostalgia reflect the company in its entirety today. Nintendo hasn't won any critical awards for any titles in the last ten years.

based on their sales in the present. no company sells even near as many consoles and games as nintendo does. the wii is by far the most bought console in the world. last time i checked intendo had sold more wiis than there were sold xbox 360 AND PS3 combined.

But I wasn't talking about consoles. And though the Wii sold the more consoles than either the xbox360 or the ps3, it isn't a combined figure. Wii sold 98 mil; ps3 sold 75 mil and xbox 77 mil.
And you are wrong again. The most sold console in the world is the Sony Playstation 2. And if we're only taking about consoles, the Playstation one is second on that list. Then comes the Wii. The only reason the Wii sold particularly well is that it was catered to extremely casual gamers with the advent of Wii Fit and Wii Sports which adults, who have absolutely no desire to play ******** video games, purchased because it was a good price for an interactive workout in their own home.

See how many sports or exercise games and mario games are there.

Sony and Microsoft are still trying to push boundaries in the gaming world by taking into consideration the stories they put into games and its replay value while maintaining the capacity to be aesthetically pleasing with the help of the hardware that they put behind their consoles. That can't be said about any Nintendo specific titles.
And their sales, if you look at them, are abysmal for a gaming company that was ONCE a titan. Nintendo needs to stop focusing all their effort in dead characters like Mario because all they are right now is a small niche market within a huge niche market and they're missing out on gaining new faithful customers.

I'm just pointing out a flaw in the content. I thought it was rather obvious that these major companies didn't actually meet up. Perhaps my intentions were unclear.

Except that the PS4 is making a huge opening for free development of Indie games. This huge open market of Indie games will not only introduce new and exciting ways to game, but will create the right friction to keep big companies on their console to compete with the indie titles.

That will really depend on the development cost for the PS4, if it's too high indie developers won't use it. The other problem is that they're promoting indie development by killing off concept approval, meaning that the flow of crap games will be huge unless they make some form of semi-strict approval system, which will put off indie developers. The last problem is the first thing a lot indie developers make are puzzle games, platformers and puzzle-platformers, not really anything larger companies will even care about enough to compete with, and not anything that can safely be a selling point for a console. There's also the whole problem of indie "developers" who take a game by another company, re-texture it and then go sell it on a different platform, which could lead to massive lawsuits for sony if they promote those games.

There is a huge section on this in the new Game Informer that explains the new Indie game system for PS4, sadly I am at college classes today and cannot get that info for you. But you are free to search it.

I know a lot of hard core fan boys that are really pissed about the new xbox. I know like die hard fans of xbox that want nothing to do with xboxone. I feel like there has to be more people like that than just the ones Iknow.

There are a lot of die hard fans that are pissed, you're correct about that, but I don't think that number will be anywhere close to enough to make sales go down enough to hurt game development for the console.

Yeah... its almost as if it was a reveal for the general public... and they had a game-specific, 4 hour presentation planned 3 weeks later...

In fact it isn't even really the console that was bad, but rather the reveal. They were to vague on too many things which led to speculation. And the speculation was negative (even though there were no real ground for it). The console itself could be great or terrible, but being vague about the gaming aspect was a very bad idea.

but this show wasnt about just the xbox one. they just happened to b revealing it. microsoft is far bigger than the xbox and most of the people there werent there for tha gaming. sellin the all in one to the non gamers was a good strategy. when E3 comes around then theywill blow the gamers out of the water

So we meet again. The bad press will already have turned a lot of people off. E3 is going to have to be great otherwise the Xbox One is screwed. Plus not very many non-gamers would be watching the reveal, which makes it kind of pointless to target them in the reveal. And what show wasn't about the Xbox One?

But they shouldn't have bothered targeting the non-gamers with the reveal because the non-gamers aren't going to buy it and the gamers, if they don't watch it live, will be youtubeing it.

do you realize that most of the ps3s early sales were for the bluray player? the amount of people saying they wanted a bluray player so they might as well get the ps3 for the kids was astonishing. the wii and ds were succsesfull because the target wasnt the people they already know are going to buy it. it was the people who werent. expanding your audience increases revenue which all companies want

So, here's my only issue with that. I watched the xbox one reveal like the next day. I remember nothing of it. That alone means they did it wrong because it didn't really make an impression. The only thing I know about the xbox one is it has a stupid name because the xbox one should be that system that came out first in the xbox series

well at a show with predominately non gamers attending it makes more sense. and they werent only marketing to non gamers. while they didnt blow their load before the actual gaming show they basicly said these are just a few of what will be on the one. which are very high selling franchises.
