No. That's the problem nowadays. DLC is made to be vital to the game so that you will buy it.

It did, I started playing videogames when I was around 3 years old, and I remember playing soccer games from EA around the time the gameboy came out. I also had the EA introduction imprinted in my mind ever since " E A SPORTS TO THE GAME" or whatever.

Not really, they didn't add any content to a game, and in some cases they were actually required in order to play a game (Ex: the zapper is required to play duck hunt).

well what i tried to say is that right now when you buy a game you have the option to either play it as it is or play it and add the DLC as an "extension" of the "experience", back in those days they did have another option but to seel you the entire game, so they had to sell you the rest of the equipment as an "extension" of the "experience"

The problem is we still have accessories for our consoles, it's not like accessories died out and were replaced by dlc. Also they're not necessarily and extension of the experience, sometimes they're required, like the zapper, it was required to play duckhunt, the kinect is required to play any kinect game, etc.
