Most people assume, Hollywood movies too, that aliens will bring about our extinction. They way I see it would be the other way around. Just think about it. Say we discovered a planet that is rich in oil and is also inhabited by an intelligent race. Now say we had the technology to travel to that planet RIGHT NOW when we are about to reach peak oil. I'd say we'd liberate the **** out of that race.

Everyone always assumes aliens are going to be more advanced than us. What if it's the other way around?

Well if they find us, then their technology is pretty advanced.

I've read an article on this somewhere, and basically for a civilization to travel space they need to not kill each other first, and are therefore also be at least somewhat peaceful.
Also, ask yourself this: What is the main reason(s) we go to space?
Science and curiosity. Oh, and to prove we can.
I could rant about this for a good hour or so, bringing up all kinds of stuff, but I'll stop now.

The way I see it, we won't be able to communicate on an intergalactic scale. If there's any way we'll meet some other life out there, it'll probably be their doing.

They might even know we are here, but just not give a damn because we are not a good asset to their culture because we have always been a volatile species

The we'd most likely make them slaves or something. I mean, the human race doesn't exactly have a good history with new races that we meet. alien lifeform thread?

think of it like this:
do you consider yourself an average person who share a rough view towards alien life with the majority of humanity? chances are you do
now do you have any intention to make a new lifeform your slave or the slave of others? chances are you don't.
as our society has grown more culturally tolerant we have seen ourselves more the protectors and caregivers of less advanced society's. just look at the way most first world nations treat isolated tribes; we often send them care packages and researchers make visits to these people to study their culture and make friends with them.
this is how i see extraterrestrial contact happening, at least if we're the "aliens"

So, are you saying that we, as a human race we should care for and protect all other life in the galaxy that are not capable of protecting themselves? That we should become the galaxy's caretakers?

I don't feel like saying anything else right now other than "Arbiter/Thel Vadaam is cool and I like him."

And that I think it depends on the enslaving them thing. Could be good aliens, could be bad, could be stupid. Who knows.
And I feel that I would lose lots of respect for the human race if we actually **** up a possibly peaceful alliance or something. I'd want to go live with the aliens instead, maybe.

Because parts of the Human Race have let me down, including people in power, "normal" people, and all the other idiots.

I want there to be either less assholes and morons on this planet or me going to another one that is better with whoever I choose.

Dammit, I fantasy-rambled again
