I go to a Programming and animation school in sweden, we are 300+ students and there are 12 females, it's pretty sad to see all the guys chase the girls when they all lack social skills.

there so many different types of art degrees, each of which present different opportunities. We wouldn't have our video games with out the people studying computer art. We wouldn't have our websites without the web designers. Without Graphic design we wouldn't have half the technical work put into designing adverts, website, magazines, album covers etc. And fine art can provide stunning imagery that can be applied in all sorts of different ways. Sure some art work is strange and sometimes seems meaningless but its different for everyone.

Art on it's own: Pretty ******* epic.

Engineering on it's own. Pretty ******* epic.

Combining the two: ******* Epic.

Without people in the arts we would have NO games, NO music, NO movies. Arts may seem like a waste of time, but they are necessary
User avatar #36 to #20 - anonymoose (05/22/2013) [-]
No building design either.

Do you really think all of the decent bands you listen to all went to get a music degree?

He mentioned no degrees, he only said art
User avatar #24 to #23 - spearpwi (05/22/2013) [-]
And this is a university/college related post. No one is bashing art here, they are just bashing the people who waste their time on degrees when they could be using that time better.

Do you really think all of the really good musicians, who have become household names and strut their stuff to the world, have degrees? Seriously?
User avatar #49 to #46 - breymac (05/22/2013) [-]
Some do and music theory helps pretty much every musician...ever. Rather it be College level, or highschool level, education helps so, so much.
User avatar #50 to #49 - spearpwi (05/23/2013) [-]
You do not need university for musical theory. Most serious musicians should have at least a firm grasp on grade 5 theory by the time they leave college/high school. I don't deny that high school helps with music, but after that it pretty much becomes a dead end for most musicians. They would be better off actually jumping straight in to the industry via gigging like crazy and putting their name out there like a desperate ****** . If anything, Uni only slows down that process.

it varys from person to person, education is also a life experiance, for 6,000$ i can take a year of hanging out with similar interest peoples.

Wow, quite frankly, **** off OP. First of all, your lack of appreciation of the arts is pretty well demonstrated by your ****** rage face comic. So, ya know, good job there. Second of all, way to just blatantly insult and belittle an entire group of people who make every single on of your days better. How do you think you would like living in a world with absolutely no movies, music, games, television, literature, or even decorations? Lastly, have fun wasting your life doing something that you have no passion in for the sole purpose of making more money. I hear that does reaaaaally good things for the average person's happiness.

Obviously, I mean no offense to actual engineers. I know a lot of cool engineering students. OP, or whoever made this comic, just happens to not be one of them.

User avatar #22 to #9 - spearpwi (05/22/2013) [-]
Just stop and think for a moment. How many of your favourite artists and musicians actually have a degree in their chosen profession? Do you really think Dave Grohl, Anthony Kiedis, Van Gogh, Will Smith, Sean Connery, Harrison Ford, James Cameron and many other artists, musicians, movie makers and actors went and wasted their time on a degree?
User avatar #14 to #9 - mephiblis ONLINE (05/22/2013) [-]

I ******* hate this prejudice.

Everyone talking about how people with art or mucisal degrees will have to work at McDonalds or some other ****** place.
You think we were here right now, the same way we are without art and music? Goddamnit, of couse, technology and science is important, too, but how ****** up would life be if we only had our progress, but no means of education?
Without arts, literature, philosophy, music and the likes, men would actually be nothing but a highly developed monkey.
Sorry for the rage, but I hate the people who think they are superior somply because they choose the "economic" route.

This painting is called Sleep. Not my words, but here's an explanation for you.

“Sleep” is virtually a visual rendering of the body's collapse into sleep, as if it was a collapse into a separate condition of being. Against a deep blue summer sky, a huge disembodied head with eyes dissolved in sleep, hangs suspended over an almost bare landscape. The head is "soft", vulnerable and distorted. And what should be a neck tapers away to drop limply over a crutch. A dog appears on the left, its head in a crutch too, as if half asleep itself.

The head is supported above land by a series of wooden crutches. The mouth, nose and also eyes are all held in place by the crutches, suggesting that the head might collapse if they were removed. Crutches are a familiar motif in Dali’s works. As Dali attests in his book, The Secret Life of Salvador Dali, “I have often imagined the monster of sleep as a heavy, giant head with a tapering body held up by the crutches of reality. When the crutches break we have the sensation of falling.”

You´ll have to wait longer, I´m not that educated what this kind of art is concerned. Music, Literature, yes, but this, sadly no...
User avatar #30 to #29 - halphas (05/22/2013) [-]
Not the painting, but what you said.
The painting is just Salvador Dali and his usual craziness
User avatar #31 to #30 - ljxjlos (05/22/2013) [-]
Ah, okay, thanks, than
Yeah, I know it´s Dali, but I never really got the appeal in his pictures. Well, tastes differ, I guess.
