Title. Not OC, found on another site.. It demotivates me To think theta person who kicks a ball wins 300 times more molly than a person who saves lives. Then get all fires sponsored and each fire fighter sponsored and televise everything and I am sure they would.

I'm a soldier, and I have to admit that it is a lot easier to learn the technique and skills required for my job than it is to learn to play soccer at a world-class level.

There is no competitive market for soldiers, we are on the same team regardless, and we can always have more.

In soccer, there is only so many open spots per team, so they really need the best of the best, and that's exactly what they pay for.

The amount of money you make in a capitalist system is based on how rare your talents and skills are. I admire them greatly, but in theory, everyone has the ability to be a firefighter. Only a select group of people are capable of becoming professional athletes. I'm getting pretty tired of hearing the old "durrr thats too much money for playing a game" complaint.

Because if firemen were to be paid more, then more corrupt people would apply themselves to become firemen, and start fires of their own so they can put it out themselves.

If you're going to do something, don't think about the money. That should come second to your happiness.

Because some people decide to watch people play soccer

That's because firefighters do it because they want to. I became a volunteer fire fighter because I wanted to be and then found out that you get paid a small amount for the amount of times you show up to training and to emergency calls.

If you don't like capitalism move to China, they have much less of it.

Well, athletes retire at, like, 30, and spend all their lives' work within 10 years.

It's kind of the same with firefighters, you either move up to a more DJ 4DM1Nistrative position or retire after a certain point. Not only that but these people risk their lives, just recently a firefighter who used to work with my father died in a building collapse trying to save people. Yet the soccer player twisted his ankle on the field, and receives more attention.

All the money in the world isn't rewarding enough as to saving lives.

there's money in sports because it's entertainment and the sports world can charge just about anything for sports and people will pay it, there's millions of firefighters and policemen and they're not making money off of millions of people paying to see them do their job, it's how the world works, it's not fair but it isn't changing

I hear these kinds of statement a lot. Let me tell you why this if fair. Those players are drawing in huge amounts of money and because they draw it it they deserve a fair cut of it. The only reason they get paid so much is because they bring in so much. Not to mention they are the elite. Only a handful of people in the world can do what they do at there level. Same goes for actors, any other professional athlete, ext. And while it would be nice to pay people like fire fightters and police more there is simply not enough money and it takes no real special skill besides some courage and being in decent shape to do there jobs.

There were 1.1 Million firefighters in the US in 2011. There are 29 members of the American Nation Men's Soccer team. Do the math.

(besides, firefighters don't generate revenue. A lot are probably getting money they earned when people came to see them play)

Actually, there are many of the busier fire departments that have full time paid fire fighters. That is there job is to wait at the station and go on calls to allow for a quicker response time since there needed more often. Also volunteer firefighters get a check at the end of the year to pay them based on the amount of calls they go on and the amount of training they do. They are paid for how active they are.

Because fans pay for tickets, pay-per-view, merchandise, appearances etc. If no one bought in, the players wouldn't get paid.

not every firefighter saves a life but they certainly do risk their own lives. that enough should warrant a higher pay grade

capitalism. if you don't like it then you can git out.

only a handful of people in the world are good enough at soccer to sell tickets and merchandise. any fully grown male with some balls and his eye on a generous pension can be a firefighter.

It's awful, but do you really want a person saving you because of the pay they get? That's one of the reasons mercenaries fail as armies.

Finally somebody who used a firefighter instead of a goddamn soldier!
