You're completely right, people just hate to accept it

What did he say?

He pointed out how Atheism has shown its bad side in recent years too, Stalin and Mao as good examples, two people that targeted and killed people who were religious

I think he got so many red thumbs because people are trying to tell him there have been points in history where there has been pointless mass ******* by religious people, in the name of their own religion. What he doesn't get is that people who happened to be atheist never did evil things because of their atheism, more so for power and control. Another thing is that if a religious leader, like the pope, would say something like "that man is the anti-Christ, he must be killed!" a lot of catholic, maybe not christian, people would believe him without question. Where as if an atheistic leader like Stalin would say "we need to kill millions of people for the good of the country!" no one would follow him on just that.

People would follow Stalin on just that one statement, he had the whole military behind him, even worse with Mao, people in China at the time saw him as a God

Stalin and Mao are notable for killing many people because they were religious, hence why he mentioned them

Hey. That just proves that no one can accept that we are all equally evil.

You do realize that atheism isn't a religion, right?

That probably wasn't based on their religious beliefs. Seeing as they had none.

Mao and Stalin both despised religion and had Christians and Muslims killed purely based on their beliefs

I'd say that's just as bad as the crusades and modern-day Islamic extremists

well wouldn't their religious belief be in having no god?
Which means they believed in no god.

All the "belief" semantics annoy me. Secular belief and religious belief are different, as one is based on confidence in observable, tangible evidence, while the other relies on elements of faith without tangible proof.
I probably worded that poorly, but hopefully you see my point. It's like painting an orange red and saying "Look, it's exactly like an apple now!"
