Let's say that I'm a serial murderer. Before every one of my murders, I shout "In the name of Jon!" Now imagine that the authorities bust down Jon's door and arrest him for murder—because that's basically what this picture's doing.
Look, it's not a particular religion's fault that people are ******* . Most everyone has a sense of ethics and a moral compass, whether it be religious or secular, and it's either very strong or weak. Some people are very good at being Christians or Muslims; some people are not very good at being Christians or Muslims; some people are good at being moral atheists; others are not good at being moral atheists.
Tragedies don't happen because of religion but because of human nature. Genocide has happened for both religious and secular reasons, because there's more to prejudice than faith. I'm an atheist myself, but the internet needs to get over itself.

People kill in the name of religion. But no one has ever killed in the name of atheism.

This is basically the idea of every anti-gaming group in the world.
"This kid killed someone but played video games" "VIDEO GAMES ARE THE ANTICHRIST SATAN ANGEL RAPIST CREATORS"

Except the Crusades were conducted by the heads of Christianity.
Remember kids, Faith is good, Religion in the evil one.

Now what if Jon had indoctrinated you and countless generations before you with the idea that certain types of people were abominations just for having certain harmless attributes, then told you to kill them for said attributes?

Then you'd just be a fool following a crazed idiot's message.

But what if Jon was created by someone else to convince someone to do evil things. Also Jon's name is God.

it's not the religion but the concept of religion.

The concept of religion is faith. It's not religion that causes problems its the misguided interpretation of it and bad leaders teaching poor ideals for their own gain.
User avatar #230 to #184 - contradiction (05/18/2013) [-]
but the whole concept of religion allows people to use it to misguide others(extremists, scientologists).

I seriously doubt the concept of religion is to misguide. It teaches(mostly) of loving the people around you, forgiveness, and understanding that no-one is perfect.

For example some Christians have been misguided onto believing that homosexuals are evil and that leads them to hating them, but the bible teaches that you should love the people around you, even people who may hate you(love thy neighbor) and that no man is free of sin(yet he who is without sin cast the first stone) if you understand that everyone is a sinner than you can't hate anyone else for being exactly like you.

As I said It is the poor interpretation of the Bible and misguide nice from ignorant leaders that makes people forget and ignor what is plainly resented to them and set their morals aside,

sorry, not the concept of religion(as you said it being faith) but the concept of the existence of religion(sorry if i may not make sense).
but regarding the bible thing. it does say to love thy neighbor, but it also says being gay is wrong(don't know what verse). personally i don't understand the bible because so many people pick and choose what to follow in it.
anyways, i'm not some angry atheist, just a curious person.

The bible does say a man sleeping with a man is a sin but all people are sinners.
So it's okay. Some people don't understand is and that is why the hate exists.

Trust me I didn't think of you as angry or hateful, it's just a friendly debate.
User avatar #299 to #288 - contradiction (05/18/2013) [-]
i believe the hate exists because of all the extremists. If you look over at Muslim's and you see what extremists do, then one comes to think that because of the existence of religion causes people to do things like this. if you look at the westboro baptist church, which in my book aren't even Christians...just delusional ***** , people also think the same thing. it all boils down to certain people ruining things i guess.

I totally agree.
