While what you say is true, I wonder if the correct pronunciation of it might actually be the most common way of saying it.

I knew the correct pronunciation because on every rare occasion that the element has been brought up (science class/ tv shows) it's also been said correctly because a teacher or someone said it. I'd bet that anyone who knows the word/element enough to use it probably knows how to say it.

Although I suppose it's also true people could vaguely know of it from a passing glance at the periodic table. Sorry, I'm not trying to be an argumentative dick so much as i'm just thinking out loud.
