'bout to get biblical in here (but don't mistake me for a thumper). According to the bible, Lucifer was once god's most beautiful creation was his right hand man(angel). After Lucifer got full of himself and convinced other angels to his side, God cast 1/3 of the population of angels down. Satan isn't in hell to punish the wicked, he is the god of the earth (actual planet) and his agenda is to corrupt as many people as possible and turn them away from God. That's why some theorize that earth is actually hell, and that *some* forms of satanism and paganism worship nature. This is a vague description, so don't crucify me for it (teehee).

It's interesting though that none of that happened until Christianity. Lucifer wasn't even in the Old Testament at all.

I think Satan is mentioned in the Old Testament, but upon translation he is described as the adversary of god. I think there are verses that describe the idea of him throughout the old testament, but are vague. Look at the story of Job for examples of Satan being involved. It's hard to derive what is meant to be metaphorical and literal in the bible. Personally I find it all (all religion) fascinating.

Oh Satan was, and Rabbis tell his story while feeling sorry for him. I'm saying Lucifer though. Lucifer wasn't a name used anywhere except for one passage referring to Jesus (I think), and then because of that people misread it and thought it meant Satan and called him that instead. Lucifer means brightest star, so people used that to refer to Satan because it meant he was the strongest angel, but it was used to refer to Jesus. I can't exactly remember what part though.

You're right, Lucifer is only mentioned once, and is only an misconception of a verse translated in 382-405 AD by a scholar Jerome. (Who was hired by the pope of the time to reprint the bible in Latin). Lucifer means Light-bearer (or bringer), Satan is translated Adversary.
God, misconceptions are fun.

Yeah, it's pretty interesting trying to find out what happened when things were lost in translation.

Seriously, I've always regarded it as a game of telephone because for thousands of years the bible has been translated, sometimes biased too. There are a few books that were even left out because of the Roman Empire.
So I'm assuming your major has something to do with history?

Well, for a long time I always wanted to be a historian of some sort so I studied a lot of things from all around, but my major is actually in game design.

Ah, nice. I'm a history major with a focus on coastal/maritime studies. I have an in-law of an in--law who's the ceo of Monster Gaming (racing games), and he seems to have established himself pretty good.

That's pretty cool. I couldn't really say what I would focus on if I would major in history...
Ah cool, hopefully I'll be moving to Marietta soon in Georgia (for family reasons) and when I do I plan on applying for pretty much any job I can get in Hi Rez Studios so I can get into the business before I get my degree.

Epic games studio is located pretty close to where I live (NC). I know a couple of people who applied to be testers (didn't get the jobs though)

I was thinking of more of an internship than being a tester. It's almost too easy to beta test games these days. I remember when people got paid for it, and now people pay to participate. Hell, Neverwinter had a $200 pack which got you into the closed beta and gave you a Drow and a panther so people could pretend to be Drizzt... it's ridiculous.

Damn, that's crazy. I knew testers used to make pretty good money but it's gotten bad.

Yeah, with how popular PC gaming has become, it's easy for them to squeeze money out of people.
