Except, you don't. There is a reason why America and the west invents stuff and China builds it. They lack the creativity, imagination and pure skill required to produce new technology.

Japan and South Korea's governments don't loom questioningly over everything its citizens do or say. Similar education system, but different environments. Nothing about China fosters creativity these days.

The only subs that my classmates actually listen to are the ones that allow them to talk, quietly, and possibly listen to music. They may get out of control sometimes, but most the time everyone does their work and the sub gives a good note to the teacher.

Well, the 2 best teachers in my school are male. This is important unless you are attractive or extremely interesting. One of them is a strict as **** DT teacher. Everyone hates him until the last few weeks where they pass. The other is the nicest person you will ever meet. He is so laid back it's unbelievable, he has a ******* lazyboy in his room and he lets 1 kid sit in it each lesson. He also lets the kids play darts at the end of every term. Both of these teachers are respected but for very different reasons. It is respect you need more than anything. Also, kids can tell how closely you stick to what your boss tells you and the more you stick to it the less of a backbone you have.

Speaking as a teacher... it can be very difficult to start as a substitute, yes. Just keep at it. Be serious but not too strict. At the same time... you're a teacher. You can ask for basic respect, and if someone is blatantly ignoring you if you ask them not to talk, for example, you can kick them out.

Be confident. If you don't have confidence, fake it. That's what most kids at that age are lacking, and to have someone who has confidence emanating from them, they'll listen to them. Don't be self conscious, don't be quiet, don't second guess yourself when you speak, and when you speak, speak loudly. Be a nice person, don't be a hard ass, that's stupid as hell and won't get you anywhere when it comes to kids, they're used to it and know that a hard ass still can't do anything, that's why it pays off to be a good person. You won't scare anyone, they have to deal with you for 45 minutes for a month or so and then they never see you again, there's no reason for them to be scared of you, and that works retroactively. However, being a nice person doesn't mean you can't be stern, as I said, be confident and make sure people don't **** on your lessons, make sure the kids actually do their ****, that it isn't going to be 2 weeks of relaxation, but make sure they know they're not in for hell. Teaching is tricky stuff man, and no one wants to find out that they're wasting their time doing something they don't want to do for the rest of their lives. I hope teaching works out well for you, man. It's a noble profession and it takes a lot of balls to get in front of the class and do that ****.
