I'm glad to see so many others got the reference as well. Anyone ever see the 1984 Dune movie? How was it?

Anybody remember the TV special "Children of Dune" with James McAvoy? It was the squeal?

Sorry I have never read the book(s), but I know Dune is ******* bad ass

Yes, it was the sequel to the Dune Sci-Fi miniseries made in 2000.

"Dune" had a very low-budget, so even some backgrounds look cheap as **** , but IMO it does a much better job at portraying the feel of the book than the 1984 movie.

However, "Children of Dune" (that portrays the events from "Dune Messiah" as well) had a much better production value. Even if the things on Leto on the end don't respect the "sand-trout all-over skin", James Mcavoy plays a damn fine role. Also, the actress playing Jessica is different than the one from "Dune" (forgot the name, she also played the Borg Queen), and is much better at it, for that matter.

Also, seeing The Preacher being played so good... speechless.

Honestly, grab the books, at least the first 3 (although the larger, grand scheme of things won't be truly visible until the 5th or 6th book) and then watch both "Dune" and "Children of Dune". You can see the 1984 movie as well, as a novelty and as a SF movie, but don't expect too much out of it.

Anybody finish children of dune? I got about halfway through it but after the two previous books I just couldn't take the writing style anymore. The story was great, but goddamn those books were hard to read.

If you think Children of Dune was hard to read (how???), then maybe you shouldn't even try to pick up God-Emperor of Dune.

I read the entire series (from Dune to Chapterhouse Dune) about 7 or 8 times, and I still feel the need to read God-Emperor again.
