If a nuclear bomb went off within a close enough distance that you'd need a fallout shelter, what possible use could you have for a phonebook?

All the people down below might have stupid answers for why you need a phonebook, but the real answer is simply you never know when or why a ******* of paper is going to come in handy.
Just that it might. Best be overprepared then under prepared~

But it's tissue-thin paper which already has its surface covered in now useless information. Also, the paper is likely glossy now (from the weight of the rest of the phonebook), rendering what little space is left on it useless for writing.
The only possible purpose is as a register of the dead.

Would you rather have it and not need it, or need it and not have it?

Phone books can provide an entire evening's heat if you know how to start a fire.
You do know how to make fire, don't you?

It certainly could, but there are better sources of fuel out there. Certainly many which are more easily obtained.

Most of today's generation can't read road/street maps.
Sad...

How will your generation survive without the Internet?
You can't.
Books are obsolete, remember?

Addresses don't do you any good without maps. Furthermore, I think it'd be rather ridiculous if you didn't know the layout of your hometown.

This. I was also thinking maybe one could argue the layout of your hometown would be greatly changed by a nuclear bomb going off in it. But then... I would also think roadsigns are the first to be ******* vaporized so what good would addresses be then.
