Don't forget, they took out his aversion to Kryptonite to make it more "realistic." Snyder and Nolan have already started to disappoint me.

Kryptonite is boring. What's cool or fun about a story in which the villain nearly kills the hero by pointing a million dollar space rock at him?

Remember Superman: Doomsday? Superman ******* DIED (effectively), and there wasn't any Kryptonite present. But it was still an amazing story, as we saw Superman's limits taxed and watched as he realized that he could show no restraint and give Doomsday no quarter, only after having the everliving **** beat of him.
THAT'S cool.

Now, remember Superman, the original Christopher Reeves movie. Lex Luthor nearly kills Superman by making him open a box, then giving a neat little necklace. Clever, maybe, and an opportunity for Gene Hackman to show off some of his acting flair, but BORING. It was even boring in Superman Returns, when Lex Luthor manages to make a whole island out of the stuff, ending with Superman chucking the whole thing into space. That should be cool! Except it's not, because rather than Superman overcoming some moral or emotional boundary, he's fighting against physical weakness. HE'S SUPERMAN, F'CHRISSAKES. He's strong, he's smart, he's powerful, I don't want to see him struggle to lift a goddamn rock. (inb4 there needs to be Kryptonite to make him less OP - there are plenty of villains that can take on Supes without weakening him with green rocks, the characters in Man of Steel among them).

I want to see Superman and Zod flying around, throwing goddamn nuclear punches, not rolling around on the streets having a slap fight or writhing in agony because some bloke chucked a hunk of Kryptonite into the near vicinity. As for the lack of the hair curl - it's a stylistic choice. Just like the lack of red undies and the yellow S on the back of his cape, it was an aesthetic decision, one that mirrors recent events in the comics. Just because those little things are missing doesn't mean this film is going to suck.

Perhaps a compromise:
Kryponite is still dangerous to him but only under certain circumstances, for example; kryptonite bullets hurt him, lasers fired through kryptonite lenses also hurt him, but waving the stuff in his face doesn't.

I see your point and frankly I agree, but Snyder's reasoning behind it was to make it more realistic, which is a pretty lame excuse. If they would have said what you just said, then I wouldn't have a problem. That being said, I wish Nolan did a better job at capturing the Dark Knight. Batman just didn't feel right to me, he was missing something; that fear that he has just wasn't there with Bale yelling all the time.

Nolan's Batman disappointed in that he couldn't be called "The World's Greatest Detective" there was little of his reasoning and deductive sides and they seemed to have had tunnel vision toward the action sequences. Rises didn't work for me because of what they did to Bane (making him a lackey again when they said they weren't going to and taking away hi venom) and the "learn to be Batman again" arc in the first half of the movie only for the second half have another "learn to be Batman" arc after Bane breaks his back.

Yes, and it is because of this that I am very hesitant on what Snyder and Nolan are doing. Guess we will just have to wait and see.

Exactly

but krypton hasn't been destroyed, so there shouldn't be any kryptonite.

oh oops i got some bad info. krypton is destroyed but zod is the bad guy, so I don't kryptonite would be a factor anyways
User avatar #45 to #42 - benjaminbutton (05/09/2013) [-]
Well that's good. I'm glad they at least have that.

Yeah, because, come on, I mean... you have such an amazing test on films... You liked The curious case of Benjamin Button

I haven't actually seen that movie. I just like the alliteration. It's like anything else though, I mean I'm sure it will be a good movie for a lot of people, I just don't like it because of the background I have in the comics. Just upsets me sometimes.

Then what is there even to make a movie about? Superman ******* about being flawless?
User avatar #36 to #26 - benjaminbutton (05/09/2013) [-]
Apparently it's about his emotional problems. ******* stupid or some **** .
#14 to #13 - sanbichemabob (05/08/2013) [-]
i was not aware of this. my distrust has deepened
User avatar #15 to #14 - benjaminbutton (05/08/2013) [-]
Yea. People praise Nolan, and he has made some ******* amazing movies, but anyone who ***** up my comics is not to be trusted. I wasn't a fan of his Batman trilogy. Didn't capture the characters well at all. I don't want realistic, I want ******* Batman and Superman.
User avatar #60 to #15 - supamonkey (05/09/2013) [-]
Best things in the Nolan Batman movies were Scarecrow and Joker (although the Nolan Joker is not the best adaptation of the character I've seen).

#16 to #15 - sanbichemabob (05/08/2013) [-]
they're making too much of an effort to modernize the comics. i guess that equates to no hair curl or kryptonite weakness for superman and a chain smoker voice camouflage for batman among other things
User avatar #17 to #16 - benjaminbutton (05/08/2013) [-]
Yea, it's rather unfortunate. I do support allowing for an open storyline, but all I ask for in return is for the right characters.
#18 to #17 - sanbichemabob (05/08/2013) [-]
and they are the right characters. they didn't have to change at all to fit into modern a modern setting like justice league
