I don't understand why Avatar is such a caustic subject. When I saw the film in theatres, I remember crowds giving it a roaring, standing ovation, I remember going back to see it seven times, I remember driving one state over with my friends so we could see it in an Imax.

Then when I got onto the internet, the reception of the film had taken a 180. Everyone was chastising it for being too similar to any number of movies with similar plots, or for the writing. I knew Avatar was going to have lame dialog, most of Cameron's movies have lame dialog, but I look past it the way I look past the poor acting in the Star Wars films. Noticing the similarities between Avatar and Dances with Wolves does not make one observant, and it does not change the fact that this is an awesome movie.

Avatar was beat out for best picture by The Hurt Locker. Did anyone see The Hurt Locker? That movie could have hardly been worse. There's practically no movie, no plot, it's pretentious indie ******** . It beat out Avatar because Avatar is cliche.
Yes, Avatar is cliche...and GOOD.

Now that I think about it, the acting in Star Wars was a bit bad. Besides glorious Ewan McGregor that is.

I remember hating the movie and not even getting through half the movie before I got up and left the theater.

I have to disagree with you there. How the hell am I supposed to enjoy a movie when I already know how the entire story in going to go by the 45 minute mark? The first time I saw it I thought it was okay, but I was almost cringing at how corny and reused the dialog, plot, and entire concept of the movie was. The second time, when my entire family went to see it, I had to walk out and play stupid **** on my phone for a half hour because I couldn't stand to see the entire thing again. It was just stupid. I never even saw Dances With Wolves, I just thought it was a painfully average movie. Not one that deserves any praise or adoration. In fact, isn't it worse that they had this cool lightshow to cover up the fact that they literally must have spent 3 days writing the story?

The ******** propaganda James Cameron stuffed into that movie was complete ******** , he doesn't make it too obvious for the idiots to like it. But he makes it obvious enough for people to understand it. James Cameron is an evil dickhead, do you know anything about this man, do you understand what he was saying in the movie? The man hates the troops, he is some insane environmentalist who believes in population control for the betterment of the planet. If you put aside all the ******** he stuffed in it, sure it was good. But Hurt Locker was accurate, original, and a real ******* movie, which more should follow suit.

I was with you until you said Hurt Locker was **** . I love that movie :(

I agree that people on the internet are just WAY too picky about things like this. They hardly ever mention what's good about something, and just go straight to the hate.

Some times the world just needs a bit of cliche.
