Or have I just been here too long?

Did anyone else think the colonel was easily the best character in the movie?
He was just painfully cool

All the money technology and creativity still wont make a movie truly great if the writing is shit, the only reason this movie even broke even was because of the visual appeal.

I don't understand why Avatar is such a caustic subject. When I saw the film in theatres, I remember crowds giving it a roaring, standing ovation, I remember going back to see it seven times, I remember driving one state over with my friends so we could see it in an Imax.

Then when I got onto the internet, the reception of the film had taken a 180. Everyone was chastising it for being too similar to any number of movies with similar plots, or for the writing. I knew Avatar was going to have lame dialog, most of Cameron's movies have lame dialog, but I look past it the way I look past the poor acting in the Star Wars films. Noticing the similarities between Avatar and Dances with Wolves does not make one observant, and it does not change the fact that this is an awesome movie.

Avatar was beat out for best picture by The Hurt Locker. Did anyone see The Hurt Locker? That movie could have hardly been worse. There's practically no movie, no plot, it's pretentious indie bullshit. It beat out Avatar because Avatar is cliche.
Yes, Avatar is cliche...and GOOD.

What is everyone's problem with Avatar? Yes the story was shit, put as I see it, that wasn't the movie's purpose!
It was made mainly as eyecandy.
And damn, it's some fucking sweet eyecandy.

I fucking love Avatar

and the movie was meh anyway. i prefer the classics where it took actual skill to create good movies (and they did it with humane budgets too)

I want you to go back and watch Pocahontas. Then Avatar. Then a side by side. There are elements from Pocahontas that avatar derives, but it's not downright plagiarism.

Avatar is still a shit movie.

Shit, it was all just CGI...

They didn't even have to fucking film actors. Coulda made the whole thing CGI.

I'll take my red thumbs now.

CGI destroys the spirit of movies, it's just a cheap and quick shortcut.
User avatar #79 to #69 - dabombmanater (05/04/2013) [-]
I cant thumb you either way. Cause you just said it was all CGI which the point of this post was to prove it wasn't (and its not like they'd actually be able to send the the actors to another planet to get a real background). But on the other hand I agree with you CGI destroys the spirit of movies, it's just that this movie is an exception.

pay shitton of money you didn't even deserve to bunch of people to make a movie out of some story
everyone's effort is to themselves
they are not a team
no one appreciated the work computer scientists did
they just appreciated the director or the writer

I'm not ready for your rage so posting as anon go fuck yourselves
User avatar #16 - cfranche (05/04/2013) [-]
It took 10 years to make that movie.
