If you actually watched the movie you'd know that they had no other choice but to take the mines.

Wait so let me get this straight. Gandalf fighting a twisted Maia spirit in the form of a Balrog, is all fine and dandy (Except the part where he "dies") But fighting a oversized octopus who probably was not part of the evil legions of Morgoth was so bad that they had to run into Moria? Mithrandir what the **** ?

It's worth it. It's an excellent movie. Just don't watch it to expect Lord Of The Rings, but The Hobbit.

Quick question for someone who just recently decided to watch these movies?

Why didn't the dwarfs show up to help fight? They obviously care enough about the outside world to send a Representative to the council. And I find it hard to belief that every dwarf on the continent lived in Moria.
User avatar #38 to #33 - beren (05/04/2013) [-]
The dwarves were fighting on their own lands. Many of the dwarves lived closer to Mordor than elves or men, on its northern border. Additionally, dwarves are by nature less extroverted than the other races. They care more about themselves. That is not to say that they wouldn't have helped, but given that they were already in dire straights, it was that much more unlikely that they would.
