A cat's headbump is actually a sign of affection.

It's less a sign of affection and more one of territory. Watch your cat. He'll do it to every chair in your house. Borrow a chair from a friend who has a cat. Yours will come over and rub his head all over that **** .

True, but they know the difference between furniture and people, and so when rubbing against us, it is a sign of affection and trust.
For example, I have one cat who adores me and one that doesn't like me. The adoring one marks me all the time, and will bounce up just to do it, but my other cat won't.

I'm guessing that's because the one who "likes" you is the dominant animal. Only one animal can own territory, and it makes sense that the other one avoids you if you're the territory of the dominant animal.

I had five cats growing up - three male and two female. You learn a lot.

Nah, it means they love you. They only rub their heads against furniture to scratch the top of their head, which they can't reach with their back feet. My cat rubs her head against my hair somethings and then licks my hair clean because she sees me as someone she cares for.
