I love this. I am a die hard Whovian and people make fun of me for it, being in America. Right now I'm going through chemo and it's rough, but somehow my love for that TV show helps me get through. Just knowing that after a long week a treatment there's a new episode waiting for me makes it all a little easier. Just knowing that on Saturday evenings I get to relax with my 4th doctor's scarf around my neck and 11th doctor's sonic screwdriver in my hand helps me get through the week. I'm a nerd yes, I am obsessed. But I am obsessed becuase Doctor Who saved my life. Every week I learn more from the Doctor than I ever will in school. I sound crazy, I know, but I just wanted to share my nerd story.

Being obviously and painfully, socially awkward will likely never be accepted though no matter how cool being a nerd gets.

Anyone here from Calgary that went to expo?
Did anyone see that person dressed as Krieger with that cardboard cutout computer wife?
I only saw him for about 10 seconds as he entered the main building.

He was awesome

ASIANS CAN ACTUALLY READ MINDS!!!!!!!!!!!
They can hear, and see what you're visually thinking. This is the absolute complete truth!!!!!

The reason a lot of Asians have completely expressionless faces is so they don't accidentally show facial expressions when people think things they don't like, find funny, astonishing, etc, and Asians segregate so their not nearly as susceptible to that happening.
Asians also segregate, and are untalkative to avoid accidentally saying things that are similar to what people are thinking and going to say.

Try thinking, and visually picturing things that are as wild as you can when you are around Asians, and look for Asians who give people dirty/particular looks for what appears to be for completely no reason.

PLEASE SPREAD THE MESSAGE!!!!! THE WORLD NEEDS TO KNOW THIS!!!!!

I guess what Will's saying is that we should want to be the very best, like no-one ever was.

It bugs me when people call themselves nerds. Even though I like several of the things that others would label me a "nerd" for liking. Calling myself a nerd seems silly, since it is usually used as an insult. Why label yourself as different for doing something you like to do?

I am who I am.
I am not a "nerd."

Pic unrelated.

I specify, i am a role-play nerd, a fair nerd (those like me will understand), and a science nerd. Basically i enjoy these things, recognize them as a bit odd, and accept it. Makine fun of yourself makes people who would make fun of you confused

Well, I think his point is that being a "nerd" isn't, or shouldn't be, about what you like, but about how you like it. A kind of passion for something, a drive to learn all about it an excel at it, whether it has to do with comic books or football or makeup or artisanal jam bottling. In that case, it's not really a label to be ashamed of (although you're right that someone might not apply it to themselves, just like a lot of people wouldn't call themselves "experts" at something because it sounds presumptuous.)

I'm sorry Mr. Rogers. I promise I go out and accomplish my goals and live my dreams. I'm working on it right now (not actually right now but I've been doing it consistently) I know how you wanted us all to succeed. I've finally begun to start feeling better and I'm appreciating my life more and more. I'll begin studying soon to become an Aerospace engineer or maybe an Astrophysicist hell might even decide to aim for theoretical work. You loved us all, Mr. Rogers. No matter what I wanted to be you told me to be great and always be a wonderful neighbor... I miss you.

I dislike it personally, because I don't think you should label yourself for being a little different from someone else. And it's just kind of stupid to wear an insult as a badge.
User avatar #372 to #351 - drunkasaurus ONLINE (05/02/2013) [-]
exactly. You said exactly what I couldn't find words to say.

User avatar #361 to #359 - honeybiscuit (05/02/2013) [-]
Yet if you call them a ****** they get mad. It's still an insult, whether they call themselves by it or not. And don't model anything you do after them.
#357 to #351 - delivering (05/02/2013) [-]
Nerd/geek is an insult?
Maybe it used to be, like 15-20 years ago, and even then only in the minds of stupid jocks, but times have changed.
User avatar #360 to #357 - honeybiscuit (05/02/2013) [-]
Noun
A foolish or contemptible person who lacks social skills or is boringly studious
or
An intelligent, single-minded expert in a particular technical discipline or profession.

The insult thing is debatable and I won't argue with that. It is arguably used LESS as an insult, but it isn't not an insult. My main issue is more with labeling yourself for being yourself.

That is a beautiful city. I was unaware it existed until now... I live in DC and your city deserves to be called a city more than mine. We don't even have tall buildings.

you should get to know your neighbors in the north. I know all of the states and their cities not even on purpose...

We're not really taught about other countries in U.S. public schools, aside from the very basic history of western civilization. We don't even have to take a second language if we don't want to... This whole country basically doesn't give a **** about the rest of the world and no one has noticed. Well, maybe other countries have noticed, but no one I've met in the U.S. is aware of the phenomenon. I hope to travel one day and get out of this ridiculous place.

Or love things socially acceptable that you love equally and have a better quality of life.
#317 - Dwarf (05/01/2013) [-]
**Dwarf rolled a random image posted in comment #105 at Puppy forever stuck in a bowl. ** I'm not reading this because it's retarded. "Tell my newborn child why being a nerd is awesome." It's a newborn. It's not going to be like, "I remember why being a nerd is cool because some guy told me when I was a newborn."
User avatar #328 to #317 - Katzie (05/02/2013) [-]
Because this was solely said for the newborn's benefit.
Because there weren't other people listening.
Because it wasn't recorded for her to watch later on in life.
Because apparently her mother would somehow forget to show her daughter this in future.
You ******* retard.
