FORWARD oriented? How many birds have those?
User avatar #15 to #7 - pitch (04/30/2013) [-]
All of them have a forward oriented knee. It's usually hidden by the feathers.
The so called "false knee" that seems to be bent backwards is actually a "new" joint between the tarsal bones.

Next time you eat grilled chicken check out the legs. Usually they only chop off the feet. You can see the forward oriented knee there c:

I'm pretty sure they're oriented that way to huddle around the egg
#9 to #7 - kaarvaag (04/30/2013) [-]
Pretty much all of them I think. I know for a fact ostriches and chickens have it, but I'm not entirely sure about smaller birds

How many other birds fly?

The knees are inside the torso. How the **** can that possibly be a beneficial evolutionary trait?
#16 to #4 - anonymous (04/30/2013) [-]
Not inside the torso on the sides pointing down. Take the feathers off any bird and you will see they all basically have dinosaur legs.

#17 to #12 - anonymous (04/30/2013) [-]
