Never watch a tv show based on a book series, ffs. Read the novels, they are epic.

Actually, in general you should watch the movie first so you enjoy it and don't get mad at the discrepancies.

Well the reason Gmcity gave that made him want to watch it seems to be the visuals and have almost nothing to do with the story. Or maybe he likes LOTR style pr0n

I completely agree. I watched some of the first episodes, and didn't like it. If I wanted porn, I'll just watch porn+it was rather boring. Some people convinced me to watch more, and it got a lot better as it went on.

Badassery in many ways, epicness, great fictional country with many interesting places that just feel real, so many people that all feel like real people, and perverted scenes of twincest and pedofilia written by an old man.
Read it. Its hands down my favorite series

Theres a giant wall in the north preventing crazy zombie things from reaching civilisation.
Everyone is too busy ******* about with politics to send soldiers to man it, eventually everyone will die at the hands of zombies.
Also swords and sex.

GoT is a lot less fantasy than LoTR. It's basically just a medieval story in an alternate world + some magic and dragons.

It isn't conventional fantasy which people have come to expect when they mention the word. All of that is under the skin in GoT; whereas in LoTR you have dwarfs, elves and other crazy **** out in the open where all humans have acknowledged these creatures.

GoT's the humans who believe magic is still real and present, and don't live in Essos, are considered crackjobs.

Low-Fantasy. Yep.

And as much as I love the actors that were picked, to anyone who wants to experience the story of Westeros (yeah, I know), then I highly reccomend the books over the television series. The television series, while good, doesn't give nearly the same feel as reading a carefully composed piece of art. For example, episode one of Game of Thrones was about fifty pages (on a very large sized book)

All personal preference though, of course. To be honest, it's worth watching just to see Joffrey cry.
