There are certain subjects that attract too many inane, juvenile and ******* stupid kids spouting off their uninsightful opinions, this is one of them.
Let me break it down easily for you: what is an
American
? The US is a nation of immigrants - people come from all around the world, and everyone, except the native American Indians, have an ethnic background from somewhere else.
The German scientists that contributed their knowledge (notice I said "contributed", they weren't the SOLE reason for development in the moon landing project) were given citizenship and became just as much American as anyone else. That's what's so great about the US; it, in many cases, combines the best aspects and strengths of many different cultures, making it harder to stagnate.
The image you so tragically try to paint is "ohhh, stupid Americans stealing tech from the Germans, typical!" which is folly and to be frank, reveals supreme ignorance on your part. Calling America a stupid nation makes you a stupid person, because America is a melting pot of every ethnic group and culture - including yours. This means that anything America accomplishes, you should be proud of. You are just as capable as anyone else to be an American, technically speaking.
Also, if it was stolen tech from the Germans, where are their moon landings? To "steal" implies an involuntary change of ownership of an object or information.
Landing on the moon was an American endeavor, and a giant leap for mankind. Remember, the whole world was watching. Everyone wanted America to succeed, save for the Russians. Stop being a stuck up, self-righteous little dickweed.

don't be a cunt. everyone knows that it's just a shortened version of "united states of america" canada's official title doesn't have the name america in it, neither does venezuela, or mexico or brazil. what you're doing is like bitching at someone for saying "russia" because technically it's called the russian federation.
just because we use "america" when we refer to the USA doesn't mean we aren't aware that north america and south america are continents. it's not like canadians or brazilians can't refer to themselves as americans. but the word America is in our official name, so the idea we can't call ourselves americans is ******* stupid. you assume it's because we are "arrogant" because you are an idiot who believes every stereotype you hear.

the recent cuts of Military spending in general has caused the AF to react and allocate more of its resources towards maintaining its military strength rather than its Space program that is correct, however were it handled the other way we would've had many more layoffs in the military resulting in a higher unemployment rate than we already have, essentially adding in the collapse of our nation... say what you like about soldiers the money put into the military tends to go back around the country and aid our economy, since it supplies jobs to our citizens, and Military Contractors pay other companies to build bases and weapons it allows for business to thrive, the recent attitude of "military bad" I feel has aided in the current collapse of our nations economy, your thoughts?

You wanna list up all the breakthroughs in space exploration? Ok
First liquid fuel long range rocket: Germany
First jet-airplane: Nazi Germany
First object in space: Soviet
First animal in space: Soviet
First man in space: Soviet
First woman in space: Soviet
First object in orbit around the sun: Soviet (Although accidental)
First object on the moon: Soviet
First robot on the moon: Soviet
First space station: Soviet
First human on the moon: USA
First object on Mars: Soviet
First object outside the solar system: USA
And if it hadn't been for the political unstability resulting in the fall of the USSR, they would probably still be beating your ass. Oh, yeah, their bombs we're bigger than yours, too :)

First reusable spacecraft: I'll give you this one, although many scientists believe that the idea of a reusable spacecraft has cost more lives than single use crafts would have.
First space telescope: Hubble telescope, launched 1990, after the fall of the USSR. Not really an amazing feat, just 'another' satellite. A great one none the less.
First man made object beyond asteroid belt: Yup, you threw your ball a bit further than what's been done before. Not that the USSR couldn't, they just had their eyes on something else.
First man made object to orbit Saturn: Yes, you are right. First object to orbit the sun: Luna 1, first object to orbit the moon: Luna 10, first object to orbit Mars: Mars 2. First object to orbit Venus: Venera.
First object to orbit another planet: Yes, Mariner 9 was the first to orbit Mars, but as said above: First object to actually orbit something else than earth: Luna 1. You didn't invent the systems needed for orbiting planets, USSR did.

The USA independently invented obit technology (the USA and USSR didn't collaborate very often) Messenger is the first to orbit mercury, Galileo the first to orbit Jupiter, Voyager 2 the only spacecraft to directly observe both Neptune and Uranus. New horizons is on its way to Pluto. Oh, and as a side note, there is a very small chance that the first manmade object in space may have been a blast cap during operation plumbbob.
P.s. I am thoroughly enjoying learning about all of this. And I completely understand where you are coming from. Both the USA and the USSR have made monumental advances in space exploration.

We had missles that were far more advanced the only reason Russia made their bombs so much bigger is because they were far more inaccurate then our bombs our idea was to put small nukes in tactical places while russia just wanted to blow up cities in hopes of hitting tactical places....also it looks like we still came out the winners because we are still intact, while they blew their budget before anything could even happen..

When i say big bombs, i mean thermonuclear h-bombs. This isn't a tactical nuke, this is a 'Level the entire city of New York with the ground' bomb. There is no need for precision bombing, no matter how small of a yield you stuff in them.
The fact that you are still intact does not mean you won the space race. All along the way the Soviet Union were beating your sad asses, and simply because the soviets focused on robotics instead of humans in space, you decided that getting to the moon first with humans were the goal. Really, putting a man on the moon was pretty irrelevant. It was proof that YOU could do it, but not proof that it could be done.
"We had missles that were far more advanced" As i'm not quite sure about this, I must request a source.

Russia (USSR) got to the moon waaay before the United States of America. They just sent robots instead of people, just like what you're doing on Mars right now.
Also, the space race was mainly military. It was a showoff between the USA and the USSR. Whomever could build spacecrafts capable of getting nuclear weapons into space would win. The real finish line would have been a combat station in space. Of course, the USSR fell before that could happen.

I think the problem here is that everyone considers "a tragedy broadcast nationally" as a "national tragedy". 9/11 was a national tragedy because of the huge loss of life, the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting was a national tragedy because of the victims in question. The shooting at the batman movie wasn't a national tragedy, nor was the Boston marathon bombing - those two were just tragic things that were broadcast nationally.
Not only that, but people also seem to think that American media isn't also broadcasting death tolls from around the world. I get an update almost daily from the news about the number of people dying in Syria. It's not like America isn't being told, but people are so happy to assume that we aren't and they spread ******** like this.
I'm so sick of this crap, because half the time it's posted by Americans who would know better if they didn't get their political views from a funny-picture website.

Actually, the majority of the (educated)American public is very concerned with the situation in Syria. However, after being heralded as some sort of evil oil-grubbing country with no regard for human life after all our other encounters in the Middle East, we're a little wary with plunging into yet another conflict that isn't our fight. Combine that with the fact that it still remains unknown who exactly we can call "the bad guys" between A) a supposedly tyrannical government and B) a rebellion that is supposedly religious extremists.
Whenever America goes in, guns blazing, we lose face and lives with the rest of the world, and even our own people. So pardon us for not wanting to jump into another conflict. Excuse us for not broadcasting it all over our media when it's not our conflict. And please forgive us for politely telling the UN to go **** itself if it thinks we're going to send troops to a country that holds alliances with places we're also allied to, when no one else is doing **** either.

As an American, I can tell you we very well know about Syria; we don't care though. Syria is none of our business, and we have no reason to fight in their war. After 22 years of meaningless conflict in the Middle East American's just don't want anymore from them, especially after we learned that the main rebel force Syria might have join with Al-Qaeda.

We don't think that. It's just a stereotype, and it's really only heavily mentioned here on funnyjunk.

let me tell you why your image is ********. one is that both currently and historically the US has had more than two political parties. the second the that a multiparty system with say 5 or 6 parties it no better at democratic representation either. i'd argue that a party coming to power on 20% of the popular vote is much worse than on 51 percent. your weird coalition power sharing **** really ends up being the same thing under a different process anyway. the two american parties have huge subgroups in them that have shifted around historically. a republican in Lincolns time would be unrecognizable to a republican today, same with the democrats. negotiation withing the political subgroups are constantly going on within the "big tent" parties. as for your stereo-typically snobby European comment, how the EU going? not great? then shut up.

I don't, but bragging about an achievement your country did before you were born is pathetic. And the only reason why you do it is that your county gets worse every year, so you have nothing worth bragging about that is less than 50 years old.

Not really, seeing as I wasn't in an argument with you there is nothing to prove. I really don't care what your opinion is. All I see are a couple of idiots who cry and moan about pointless crap all day. You should really learn to lighten up and just enjoy life instead of being a cynical asshole.

pretty sure everyone is like that. england and canada went into iraq and afghanistan with us. that and look at the israeli palestinian conflict. israel was very lenient with palestine bombing the **** out of them and when israel says "thats enough" and starts bombing them islam gets butthurt saying isreal is doing it to eradicate islam as a whole

Both of those wars were "sold" to the world with information that was plain wrong, which your government knew perfectly well.

no...not even close. israel was set up as a safehaven for judaism. the muslims in that part of the world are taught to hate judaism. thats why hezbolah is giving them **** because from the age of 5 everyone in palestine is taught to hate judaism and israel, and that if they get the chance to kill off israel in any way at any time to take the chance

your government received numerous reports from several agencies that there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, and completely chose to ignore all of them.

we chose to ignore them because even without the weapons of mass destruction we were doing a good thing. whens the last time you heard sadam hussein doing anything good for his people? same with al quaeda. shooting 14 year old girls for going to school. yeah i guess we hadbetter pull out of there right when we figure out there were no weapons and let the **** continue. you see what happened when we tore down the statue of sadam? instead of everyone throwing **** at the bulldozer they ran over to the statue and started ******* the statue up. you can sit there in your computer room going between this site and porn hub all you want, but if you actually took a look around youd see that were helping iraq and afghanistan unlike wherever you are from. so again: shut the **** up bitch

man, i'm american, and i think ruinsage is being a complete jizz rag, but even i don't think this is true. i mean saddam was a bad guy and everyone hated him but his iron fist was the only thing keeping iraq from civil war and thats exactly what happened. i mean once we ****** everything up we had some obligation to try to fix it, but in retrospect it was a ****** idea in the first place and we certainly knew that there were no weapons or that the evidence was too flimsy to go to war over. what al qaeda does is ****** but it happens in plenty of countries that we don't decide to go to war with.

It is a national tragedy because it happened on American soil to American people. in a developed country where stuff like this doesn't happen every day. Why wouldn't a terrorist attack within a country be a tragedy to the country it happened in?

would you look at that, no one has ever been to the moon!
Go there in the 60s, up until recently we didnt even have the technology to reach another planet let alone send people there.
everything about the footage that supposedl was shot on the moon is pure ********.
if it where possible to go there, WHY THE **** did no one lese go to the moon for half a century?
Rich companies offer 0-G flights where they go close to outer space.. if it where possible to go to the moon dont you think that there would be conpanies keen on getting there and make a fortune with the retards that wanna go.
