It's scary the way that it's going now, tuition and costs getting higher and higher, it's going to the times where only the very rich can get an education and the poor are illiterate...

Oh wait....

I live in Scotland and get my University fees free. In England, they have to pay and I feel this is really bad because people who are trying to get a really good education have to pay lots of money while there are people all over Britain with a disgusting attitude and live on the dole for the rest of their lives with no intention of getting a job or contributing to society.
#107 to #71 - John Cena (04/27/2013) [-]
i live in mexico and only the smart folks get to go to college, the dumb ones dont get jack **** . You basically compete for a spot. which, in a way, is good because all the useless ***** get left out. Much better than how it was back in the USA where you're literally in the same classroom with someone with the IQ of a dog.
#105 to #71 - badhatharry (04/27/2013) [-]
Kinda the same in Gibraltar, since we're such a small place we're forced to go to UK for university. So the government pays all tuition fees and give us about £5000-6000 a year for travel and accommodation fees. Pic unrelated, fanciest pic I have.
#104 to #71 - John Cena (04/27/2013) [-]
We dont have to pay it all really in England.
The government pays ALL of it unless you're very rich and you only ever pay back if you earn over £21,000. You pay very low percent of whatever is over that £21 grand mark.
(e.g. you earn £21,001, you only ever pay an extremely small percent of that £1)

Btw this picture was taken at my high school. (too bad I wasn't alive at the time)

I love Henry Rollins. I'm going to see Black Flag in August but he's retired and won't be there.

It'll still be awesome though.

I'm guessing they all conveniently forgot that they hated each other but that's how reunion shows go. Still looking forward to it mostly for Greg Ginn's guitar playing

University / College is free where I live and people are still dumb ***** .
User avatar #57 to #51 - besle (04/27/2013) [-]
I'm not a scot myself, but i'd guess it's not actually "free" but instead paid through your tax-system, much like most of Europes schools are?
User avatar #62 to #57 - Hayzer (04/27/2013) [-]
Yep, but we pay the same taxes as England and Wales but they have to pay for University
#59 to #51 - John Cena (04/27/2013) [-]
It's really rather unfair. As part of the UK you should really get ****** over with £9,000 a year too, or if you paid it then everyone would probably have to pay less, like £7,000 each.
#66 to #59 - montybalboa (04/27/2013) [-]
It is ******** isn't it, all of Northern Ireland, Wales and England paying for the education of one country, which isn't even the country with the highest GDP per capita. Makes me so mad, if it were the other way around there would be riots

Or pay teachers as much as doctors so instead of filling our colleges with idiots we'll have proper students...

No really... The humanities department at my school is embarrassing...

Yeah it's weird seeing him play such and evil guy when you know he's the opposite of it. Played the part well in Sons though.

Or you have a country whose economy is in the toilet because everyone has a college degree and there are only enough jobs for a fraction of them or there are an overwhelming number of students and only a handful of teachers, forcing universities to actually teach less in order to have a higher graduation rate resulting in undereducated professionals. Oh and btw this isn't a hypothetical country, it actually happened to India.
#84 to #64 - John Cena (04/27/2013) [-]
Yeah, but India is a **** hole anyway.
#90 to #64 - angelusprimus (04/27/2013) [-]
Whut? India? Country that has 314 million people illiterate? That India has too many educated people?
India that has economic growth of 7% and GDP growth of 11% (comparisement USA has 2.5 and 2.2) that India has economy in toilet?
India who has the largest number of research facilities opening and being moved to in the world? They have too many people overeducated?
Jees dude, you really pulled your post out of your ass haven't you?

Saw his spoken word "concert" few years back. He is truly one of the most influential person I've ever had the opportunity to listen to. Guy is one of a kind, stayed in the cold weather for 3 hours to make sure he talked with each and every fan. It is a shame that people only know him from Sons of Anarchy though when he has done so many great things
User avatar #96 - muchasmarcos (04/27/2013) [-]
Not everyon can be highly educated. A discrimination system based on your abillites is needed in schools and all schools must uphold the same standards instead of lowering them. Separate the dumb after the first 8 school years, then seperate the average from the extraordinary during the next 2 years. Only those that work hard and show apropriate results deserve to be in coledge.
#100 to #96 - John Cena (04/27/2013) [-]
i genuinely disagree.

college should be set at a certain difficulty, and if someone can't make it, they can't.

if they thrive, then give them resources to further education.

keeping people from an education would only make them dumber.
i didn't try at all before, and now i work really hard to learn this stuff. if i was just shut down and not given any chance, i would just be another idiot in a country full of them.
User avatar #102 to #100 - muchasmarcos (04/27/2013) [-]
um this is a primary school and highschool selection process. those that go through that process and enter coledge (the average and extraordinary) would have free acces to university. those that don't, well lets say that the'll end up as low wage workers in factories. selection is always needed and this kind of selection would put education higher up as a priority for both kids and parents. those that later on wan't to enter coledge will ofcourse have to pay the fee but after the first year they can become regular students that don't pay fees (only if they show the reqired results).

In Denmark almost all education is free and you get support from the government if you're over 18. The bad side is one of the worlds highest taxes when getting a job. Anyway i don't think the rest of the world fears Denmark.

Some people are just stupid. And having them waste 5-6 years at a community college until someone gives them a pity degree in goddamn Medieval Literature won't help anyone.
User avatar #69 - profanity (04/27/2013) [-]
Get rid of financial aid and college will become cheap. Middle class families like me are getting ****** over because because government is out helping your poor asses giving you free college while I'm not eligible for aid and gotta pay the whole goddamn expensive tuition as a result to make up for the cost of all you financial aid faggots. It doesn't even help when the families with our income get ****** the hardest by taxes to support welfare faggots. **** this gay earth.
