Any modern equipment that sends distress calls would also send coordinates.
I'm not sure what the plane expects to do.

Don't give us a back story or anything. It's not as if we want to know or anything...

A while back, a yacht put out a distress call due to some failure. The standard aviation operations procedure, regardless of the nature, is to forward distress calls to all active aircraft, so if they pass over the area, they can keep an eye out. Well, an Air Canada pilot received the call, and realized his flight would be passing over the area. HE descended to 5000 feet (operational search height above an ocean) and informed the passengers of what was going on. Because of his actions, the yacht was found, safe and sound, and crew saved.

I think the point was supposed to be that it was a Canadian pilot dropping to save someone.

So the picture is talking about a simulation experience and not real life? If so, why would OP post about "his native land"? Is only Canadian ATC programmed to transmit/receive these types of distress calls? Why not use an actual picture of a Boeing 747 in Air Canada livery instead?
