having a religion that is all about saying you dont believe in another religion
i love atheism, but thank god im not one
User avatar #541 to #523 - isomeras (04/18/2013) [-]
Atheism is not a religion. The prefix "a-" states the exact opposite - you're AGAINST theism, which is basically what religion is.

While not an atheist (or a christian since that seems to be the common census on this site) it still pisses me off when the hate flies, especially in a misguided fashion. Don't be a **** .
User avatar #574 to #541 - cryingchicken (04/18/2013) [-]
don't be technical about this **** . most atheists are annoying ******* and you know it.
User avatar #576 to #574 - isomeras (04/18/2013) [-]
As are most christians. Your point?
User avatar #580 to #576 - cryingchicken (04/18/2013) [-]
well no, most christians are just normal people with a religion. but since a large amount of atheists think they're smarter than theists they tend be ******* . I know that not all are but a lot are.
User avatar #583 to #580 - isomeras (04/18/2013) [-]
No, I've seen a lot of ****** christians, oft in equal measure to athiests.
User avatar #592 to #583 - cryingchicken (04/18/2013) [-]
not in terms of percentages but since, at least in most places, their a more theists than atheists it makes sense that it would seem they're in the same quantity.
User avatar #547 to #541 - stanislaw (04/18/2013) [-]
love the minus thumbs right there, shows maturity. i am also neither a christian or an atheist. what im saying is that the term atheism, it means not believing in god, i have no knowledge of god and therefore cannot be an atheist because i cant not believe in something i dont know about. its kinda like an anti movement, i think thats retarded.
User avatar #552 to #547 - isomeras (04/18/2013) [-]
I actually didn't downthumb you myself, I rarely use the thumb system as I believe a straight-up debate is much better than merely judging what you have to say for yourself with imaginary thumbs.

precisely, i would appreciate you not calling me a **** for my opinion however

Being outright wrong and making a big deal of it kinda looks ****** by my books, but for the time being I revoke my insult and provide apology in the highly hypocritical form of a couple of upward-pointing thumbs.

User avatar #569 to #567 - stanislaw (04/18/2013) [-]
so wat is ur belief then?
User avatar #570 to #569 - isomeras (04/18/2013) [-]
It's kind of a self-formed belief that relates to the world I write stories in now. A lot of people have compared it to existing religions - there's a lot of "balance" going off in it. It's a good comfort to me and from time to time I do pray to one of the three that exist within that belief.

It does make me feel a little uncomfortable to be talking about this on FJ, the judgement centre of the internet (from what my knowledge says anyway). I'm not sure why.
User avatar #572 to #570 - stanislaw (04/18/2013) [-]
eh its fine, no one here can do anything about what you believe in. im an existentialist myself, although like you i came up with everyhting myself, it fits existentialism perfectly.
User avatar #575 to #572 - isomeras (04/18/2013) [-]
I do get quite existential sometimes when I lose sight of my belief, and it becomes incredibly scary because I get myself caught in an infinite loop of the concept of nothingness if you die.

Surely you notice the nothingness. Nothingness can't be there unless you know there's nothing there. But you don't notice the nothingness, which causes more nothingness. Which you have to notice.

See where it goes from there? I have a hard time understanding it. I've got aspergers so that probably contributes to it.
User avatar #579 to #575 - stanislaw (04/18/2013) [-]
yes! i used to have panic attacks thinking about just that. existentialism helped me, i realised that it is the individual who gives life meaning. i know that after i die i will be anything i want to be, i genuinely believe it, so i am no longer scared.
User avatar #581 to #579 - isomeras (04/18/2013) [-]
Heh. In my belief you don't get much of a choice. You die, there's three outcomes.

1: You get a new body, new memories to make. This happens if you didn't do what you were meant to do in your previous life. You don't ever get to know what that thing is until the second thing comes along.

2: You get to the Sanctuary. This happens if you've done your thing.

3: If you're a total dick and go against it, your spirit just... Breaks. It doesn't exist any more. You get nothingness.
User avatar #584 to #581 - stanislaw (04/18/2013) [-]
so you choose to restrict yourself? wats being a total dick? you say there is good and bad?
User avatar #589 to #584 - isomeras (04/18/2013) [-]
There's good and bad to an extent - purity and corruption.

Before you get all laughy at me, sexual act has nothing to do with that. It's generally what you do with what you have. You're corrupt if you're a lying ******** that does nothing but exploit the **** out of people's weakness. You're pure even if you do a few things that could be considered bad in the world.

It's a really passive belief to be honest. I just choose to go ahead and find my thing. I've done a few bad things that I've paid for in my own way (I do punish myself for it. There's no forgiveness just for saying you've ****** up) but otherwise yeah.
User avatar #594 to #589 - stanislaw (04/18/2013) [-]
i strongly believe in the lack of good and evil, evil things befall people who act in a good way and vice versa. the only good and evil is that which is good or bad for you, there is no universal good and bad.

Science is purely about furthering our understanding the universe in which we live. There's no good or evil involved...
User avatar #526 to #520 - englman (04/18/2013) [-]
That's why I used the apostrophes. 'Good' and 'Evil' are just concepts based on morality and emotion. However, you can't 'prove' something is 'good' or 'evil' really. Unless you want to start labeling things, that is. Then anything that causes a negative side effect could be 'evil' and anything that causes a positive side effect could be 'good' (or just the opposite if you feel like being confusing lol)

But basically, we have to label everything and have 'lines' that we shouldn't cross, for obvious reasons, etc.etc.

If it's circumcision, you're probably not healthier, and probably not in bad health from sickness either.
I tried to look up if it was better or worse for people, they say it makes your dick less sensitive, which doesn't sound like a bad thing. maybe last longer in bed.

If a sharpened crucifix fell from the ceiling and cut your dick in half or something, that sounds awful.
#590 to #556 - rodneyabc (04/18/2013) [-]
It's a mixed blessing.

You last longer but you enjoy it less.
User avatar #593 to #590 - drewbridge (04/18/2013) [-]
Well, that's what they SAY.
They said it's a "75% decrease in pleasure". I don't know how you'd measure that, but if my dick was 75% more sensitive, I don't think I could walk.
#627 to #593 - rodneyabc (04/19/2013) [-]
I think you can just do it through brain scans these days actually, find the part of the brain that controls endorphin production, then monitor it while jacking off.
User avatar #634 to #627 - drewbridge (04/19/2013) [-]
That's....that's pretty ingenious, I suppose. Most awkward test ever.
User avatar #545 to #538 - englman (04/18/2013) [-]
Gladly friend, here's a short bit of an article on it. The link is at the bottom if you'd like to read the whole thing sometime.

"What the research revealed
Many studies on the benefits of circumcision have been performed in Africa, where, because of the prevalence of HIV and other STDs, the effect can be seen more quickly. The task force found evidence that circumcision has a preventative effect on:
HIV: Studies in Africa and a CDC math model study found that circumcision reduces HIV infection among heterosexual men.
Parenting.com: Dad decides not to circumcise his sons
HPV: Another African study found that circumcision reduces the spread of human papillomavirus, some strains of which can cause cervical cancer in women.
Other sexually transmitted diseases: A variety of studies suggest that circumcision is linked with decreased risk of contracting syphilis and genital herpes.
Urinary Tract Infections: Although still uncommon for boys, UTIs are more common among uncircumcised males in the first year of life. Treatment at this age can be painful and require hospitalization.
Penile cancer: An association was found between circumcision and decreased risk of this rare type of cancer.
Prostate cancer: A new study suggests that circumcision could be tied to a slightly lower rate of prostate cancer. While critics say circumcision decreases sexual pleasure, there are currently no scientific studies to support this claim. In fact, study participants in Africa who had been circumcised as adults reported either no effect or increased pleasure."

It sounds like wearing condoms and taking showers do the same thing, no? I do those those things. Also, I live in America, where AIDS is much less prevalent.
And if it's soooo beneficial, why not wait until the boy is old enough to consent?
Did you know that only 17% of canadians are circumcised? (Canadian Institute for Health Information). The only way I'd be on your side if I saw a headline "MILLIONS OF CANADIANS DROP DEAD AS A RESULT OF OWNING A NOT MUTILATED DICK".
I have friends who aren't circumcised. In NO WAY they are not as healthy. I'm going to need some stronger evidence to think mutilating the ******** of infants is okay.
User avatar #636 to #612 - englman (04/19/2013) [-]
I kind of agree with #635.. You sound pretty angry. Yes, it's less prevalent and yes, you (and the vast majority of everyone else not in a 3rd-world country) are probably not at any real 'risk' of being less healthy. But over, say several million people, you're healthier (maybe just microscopically) Not a big deal really. But yeah, you last longer in bed and you get it done at a young enough age that it doesn't make you incredibly sick, like it would if you were 30 years old (and if you do get sick as a baby, you don't remember thanks to infantile amnesia).

But either way, I was just sharing some information with you, not trying to fight.
User avatar #635 to #612 - drewbridge (04/19/2013) [-]
If nothing bad happens as a result, why are you so mad?

I have a scar on my penis. I have to see it everyday. I hate the way it looks. It was an unnecessary surgery
User avatar #638 to #637 - drewbridge (04/19/2013) [-]
Well, ok. Sorry about that I guess. Girls can't tell the difference.
User avatar #640 to #638 - leostar (04/19/2013) [-]
Don't give a **** what girls think. If a girl (or guy) doesnt like me because of the look of my penis, she (or he) isn't the right person for me. And you can totally tell. Its a crooked brown line that goes all the way around. Also, the skin on each side of the scar is totally differences. #636. You're right, i do last longer. So long that I can't ejaculate (during standard intercourse), and that embarrasses me. I'm not an unhealthy kid. This shouldn't happen, especially at my age (19). I can't help but think that the circumcision took a role in this situation.
User avatar #641 to #640 - drewbridge (04/20/2013) [-]
I have a scar on my dick, too. You can't even get off? That sounds like an issue that a legitimate doctor should hear and maybe recommend you to someone or confirm your ********** .
