Once an Iphone is bought, it's just as good as other phones.
It's just the price, and since the person already had it, it wasn't an issue.
User avatar #74 to #46 - nathanbiggs (04/18/2013) [-]
But an iPhone doesn't cost that much more in comparison to other Smartphones.

I'm pretty sure a phone that doubles as body armor in fairly good.

...What if the reasons IPhone's cost so much is that they're made of ballistic plating?
User avatar #28 to #9 - thegamerslife (04/18/2013) [-]
They aren't. they don't. they suck. even a 25 auto would go through an iPhone

Wow, that really did save his life. Imagine if that bullet hadn't hit his iPhone, he'd be stuck with an iPhone for months.

Hes lucky that this bullet was made in an even worse chinese factory than the iPhone was made....

A bullet would have destroyed that phone and the guy, that is a pellet, probably a .22 pellet.
#19 to #18 - gobnick (04/18/2013) [-]
police do use low penetration rounds, they might even have bullets that almost stop on impact
User avatar #73 to #19 - therealtjthemedic (04/18/2013) [-]
Hollow points are actually illegal to police in most countries cause they mushroom out and are considered inhumane or something.
User avatar #89 to #73 - gobnick (04/18/2013) [-]
actually they are almost always required...what happens if you discharge your weapon at a thin surface or at a man near a crowd? these are probably prime reasons for hollowpoints, and don't say "well they shouldn't shoot so much then" cause if they have cause to fire their weapon, they're either looking to maim or kill, there is nothing else at that point.
User avatar #27 to #19 - thegamerslife (04/18/2013) [-]
I still have some glacer bullets left, they are total crap and I would never use them. Heard about a local jeweler who had a CPL (conceal pistol license(WA)) and he bought some, was getting robbed, shot the guy between his nose and teeth, didn't even go through, the man was arrested and charged, the jeweler went and got HP's. FIN!
#58 to #18 - John Cena (04/18/2013) [-]
That doesn't look like a .22
After all, a 9mm doesn't transfer that much energy.
User avatar #59 to #18 - fantomen (04/18/2013) [-]
It's much bigger than a .22lr.
It looks like a 9mm or .38spc which are both commonly used by police around the world. But it is in all likelihood a ricochet, so it it hit something at an angle, lost nearly all it's energy, and then bounced into the iPhone, which would explain why it didn't tear the iphone to **** and kill the guy.
#21 to #18 - fuzzysixx ONLINE (04/18/2013) [-]
My eyes may be tricking me, but it looks like the nose of the bullet is visible behind the screen to me. It appears to be a jacketed round nose .22lr bullet. A .22lr round does produce a lot of penetrating power, especially from a semiautomatic handgun, due to cycling the action. It is plausible that a phone would stop it.

Pic related my GSG 1911 .22lr, which has a heavy slide for a .22lr.
#22 to #21 - kainhall (04/18/2013) [-]
wrong... the muzzle velocity of a bolt action, lever action ETC 22lr is going to be more than a hand gun due to...
1. not saping gasses/using energy to cycle the action
2. longer barrel

that bullet is bigger than a 22lr by far... it looks like a 9mm to me, and it looks like a non jacketed, hollow base round... idk if thows are made.

i think you misstyped however...you look liek you know your **** .....just correcting you and stoping retarded sheep from saying pistols make more Muzzle energy that rifles.
User avatar #25 to #22 - fuzzysixx ONLINE (04/18/2013) [-]
I meant to say does not. Meaning a handgun is significantly less powerful do to the action and barrel elngth. I am not that familiar with the size of an iPhone so I kind of guessed. Even a 9mm with a lighter powder load could be stopped, but it is less likely.
#42 to #25 - kainhall (04/18/2013) [-]

User avatar #80 - plainarcane **User deleted account** (04/18/2013) [-]
1. That's too big to be a regular handgun bullet, it would have to be one of those handcannon rounds in which case the only thing that could possibly save you is body armor
2. Bullets are not completely hollow like that (not even hollow points)
3. There is no copper jacket on that bullet; police do not use jacketless lead bullets.
4. There are no striations on the bullet that would there on one that had been fired down a rifled barrel. So, either the cops were using a smoothbore gun, or this is fake.
#81 to #80 - turdofdoom (04/18/2013) [-]
what is a smooth bore gun ?
#83 to #81 - John Cena (04/18/2013) [-]
The barrel of most guns have spiral grooves cut into them so it causes the bullet to spin which makes it more accurate. A smooth bore does not have that.
I'm no gun expert. Hell, I've only shot a gun twice in my life, but this is about the extent of my knowledge on this subject.
