This has 115 pictures stored in it. How the hell do you record images on a phonograph record?

Carl Sagan was one of the people in charge of designing the plaque, and when they were deciding which song to put on the record, someone suggested a piece by Bach, to which Sagan replied "That would just be showing off."

Its because gold doesn't corrode you twit.

Also it is not pure gold but a gold-plated copper alloy with an aluminium cover electroplated with ultra pure uranium-238.

If they actually sent a record made of gold, they're dumbasses. The needle would probably destroy the thing before it played.

It's made of gold because gold doesn't corrode. It can spend basically eternity in space and look exactly like it did the year it left earth. And yes, iron does corrode in space.

I'm surprised this is still being learned about. It's been rocketing away from earth for over 30 years.
